Holidaying with Kids: Top 5 Summer Packing Tips

Holidays and kidsThe holidays are here and it’s finally summer!

Going on vacation is a great thing, for everyone, adults and children. A holiday done right can really refill your batteries and get you ready to do what needs to be done. A holiday is basically a break. On holidays you need to have everything as practical as possible and not doing so can lead to a “I need a vacation from this vacation” scenario. This is why you want to pack as well as possible and the least as possible, but the most practical things. This is basically the formula for great preparations for the holidays. You need versatile clothes and objects, done as well as possible and you will be set to go.

If you have got a summer holiday planned with the family, it goes without saying that the stress of packing is far greater than it would be if you were traveling alone. Whether you are traveling with babies, toddlers or older children, effective planning and preparation is all it takes to make sure that traveling, as well as the holiday itself, goes as smoothly as possible – allowing you to actually enjoy that much-needed time relaxing by the beach. Here are a few must-read tips on how to effectively pack when traveling with children.

1  Organization is Key
Before your holiday, it is important that you plan and prepare for all situations. This can be effectively done by creating your own checklist – some computer-savvy mums (and dads) even recommend creating an Excel spread sheet detailing every outfit as well as required toiletries and toys, you can break them down into each child and simply tick off every line as you pack the suitcases.

2 Make the Most of Every Outfit
While it can be tempting to buy every gorgeous outfit that the high street offers, in order to pack efficiently (and keep suitcases under those weight limit restrictions!) it is best to choose clothing that can be worn more than once on holiday, as well as pieces that can be easily mixed and matched. If you have girls,in addition to affordable garments, you should also pack a couple of pieces of high quality girls designer clothing for those special meals out on holiday. This will make your kids feel really special.

3 Keep it Easy for yourself
Let’s face it, when it comes to washing clothes on holiday, it has to be done! You can’t always keep on buying new and new clothes. Children get more dirty than adults, so having clothes that wash easily, like the Catimini dresses really helps. Try to avoid packing dry clean only garments, and it is also worthwhile to choose clothing that isn’t easily creased so you don’t have to iron again once you arrive.

4 Don’t Forget Entertainment
Whether it’s a long haul flight or a family car ride, kids can quickly become restless! It is best to plan ahead when packing for a flight or car journey by making sure you have plenty of toys and games to keep the kids amused. When giving children electronic games, for the consideration of other passengers, also provide your children a set of headphones too.

5 Remember those Home Comforts
Any parent knows the wrath in store should they forget to pack their child’s favorite soft toy. If your children can’t go anywhere without their teddy bear or comfort blanket, make sure you check, and check again, so that you don’t forget those essential home comforts.

Following these tips will really improve the way you are spending your vacation, and shouldn’t vacations in the end be all about relaxation? It’s not what you do, it’s the way you do it!

If you’re flying with children it can be a good idea to take your own snacks or food as often kids refuse to eat the airline food. You can also make it healther too if you don’t like them eating junk.
