Awards Season: The Men of the 2015 Oscars

The highly anticipated 87th Oscars ceremony took place last evening in Los Angeles, California at the Dolby theater. After the Golden Globes and the SAG awards, it was the turn of the Oscars to give us a great (fashion) show. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented its awards for feature films in a televised show that was presented by US actor Neil Patrick Harris. The show was watched by millions from all over the world, who were excited to see who will be the big winners of the night.

In the end, the film “Birdman” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” were the night’s big winners, with not less than four Academy Awards apiece. The night was full of other events as well: from unexpected wins to Lady Gaga’s Sound of Music performance, there was a lot to see.

The Oscars have changed a lot throughout the years: if during the first editions, the tone was sober and more mature, now the Oscars are an event that is more similar to a prom night than to a sophisticated gala event. Selfies, photobombing, and weird posing are all part of the event.

The Oscars have redefined themselves and have evolved into an event that includes the home audience more and is more relatable. This is why, for so many people, they are a great opportunity to see their favorite celebrities as themselves, outside any role, and to see what they are wearing, as celebrities are always a great source of fashion inspiration.

Fashionwise, the 2015 Oscars are generally quite conservative as well.

This year, looking at menswear, despite the fact that most men kept it in the same old classic lines, there were some guys who decided to wear something different than a classic tuxedo or suit. A trend, if it can be said so, that was quite popular on the red carpet was wearing accessories. From Jared Leto’s umbrella and JK Simmons’s hat, this year’s red carpet looks were quite accessorized.

Accessories are a great way not only to style up an outfit, especially a more classic one, such as a suit, but they are also a wonderful way to express your personality and to draw the right kind of attention.

Of course, speaking of fashion and attention, host Neil Patrick Harris appeared wearing only his underwear as a play on the “Birdman” film, which was a moment that caught everyone’s eye.

If the ladies are always taking the spotlight when it comes to red carpet looks, we are taking a look at some of the men who walked down the red carpet before the awards ceremony started.
