A List of Clever and Useful Fashion Hacks (B)

We all want our clothes to look their best, feel their best on us and last for as long as possible. However, at times, because they get wrinkled, dirty or go bad in other ways, they seem to become unwearable and, let’s be honest, nobody wants that. Most of us don’t know what to do to make them wearable again.

This is why we have put together a list of useful clothing and fashion hacks that will help you make your clothes look like new!

Here it is:

washer-shrunken-shirtStretch shrunken shirts

One of the most bothersome clothing-related things is when you see that a shirt has shrunk in the washing machine. To stretch it out, soak the piece in a mixture made from hot water and hair conditioner. Let it sit for five minutes. After that, stretch it back to its original size.

Quick iron

To quickly make a wrinkled shirt look great again, throw it in the dryer with an ice cube. This will remove any wrinkles the shirt has in no time! Shirts can also loose a good deal of wrinkles if you hang them in the bathroom while you are taking a steamy shower.

Remove smells from sneakers

If you have sneakers that smell very bad, you can put them in a bag and place them in the freezer. Let them stay there overnight. The next day, given that all bacteria will be gone, your shoes will smell fresh again.

Mens cashmere sweatersWash sensitive sweaters wisely

Sweaters made from delicate materials such as cashmere can’t be washed in the washing machine. They need to be washed by hand only. To make sure you take great care of them and not ruin them, wash them in a solution made from baby shampoo and water. After you have washed them, let them horizontally dry on a towel – never vertically on a hanger!

Remove sweater pills

Those annoying sweater pills can be easily removed with a shaving blade. Of course, we recommend you to be very careful with the blade – you don’t want to cut the sweater. Also, if you do this, keep the blade only for sweater care, don’t use it for shaving as well!

Sweater pills can also be removed with a pumice stone.

Mens colorful socksExtend your socks’ expiration date

To elongate your socks’ life, after washing them, air dry them whenever you can! If you throw them in the dryer, the heat will deteriorate the elastic inside making your socks tare more rapidly.

Renew your sneakers

Old canvas sneakers can be easily renewed by using fabric paint. Pick a color you like and paint your sneakers – they will look fresh and ready to be worn!

Clean the inside of your bag

A bag can be easily cleaned on the inside with a lint roller. We recommend turning the bag inside out first, if you want to obtain the best results.

Dress-Shirt-with-Ink-StainRemove ink stains

One of the hardest stains to remove from your clothes are ink stains. These can be removed if you place some hand sanitizer on them before throwing the garment in the washing machine.

Unlock a zipper

zipperA blocked zipper can be unlocked if it is lubricated with a glass or hard-surface cleaner. Use a cotton swab (or a cotton bud for British English readers) to lubricate only the part where it is stuck and protect the rest of the garment from touching the cleaner.

Zippers can also be lubricated by rubbing them with a graphite pencil tip.

Wash your canvas sneakers

Once dirty, canvas sneakers can turn out to be hard to clean. However, you might not know that they can be easily washed in the washing machine.

… And there you have it!

Next time one of your garments or accessories will present dirt, wrinkles or any other issue, you will know how to handle it and how to get your garment back on the right path. Taking care of your clothes will make them last longer, be stronger and feel better with every wear.
