The 44th edition of the American Music Awards took place on 20 November at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
It was definitely Drake’s night, as he managed to break the record for most nominations, with 13, which was before held by Michael Jackson.
The stars who took part in the event wore stunning fashions on the red carpet and pulled all the stops to look their best. Take a look at the celebrities who made our fashion edit.
John Legend
Singer John Legend wore a great jacket that featured a youthful and bold print. Such a print is not common on the red carpet and brought a lot of dynamism to the event, which is something we really enjoy to see. Well done!
Sting
Because the music industry is an industry of fun and mostly casualness, Sting decided to dress for the event in a rather casual look, but that was still elegant. Wearing fitted clothes and having a good attitude can make any pieces look amazing and this music legend definitely understands that.
Shawn Mendes
Also going for a casual look, singer Shawn Mendes looked great in an all-black outfit. The way he made a monochrome neutral outfit work was to mix pieces of different textures: the feel of the leather contrasts with the shirt, which makes the outfit three-dimensional and edgy.
G-Eazy
Rapper G-Eazy went for the opposite type of monochrome achromatic look, by wearing similar textures from head to toe. This way, he obtained a long and lean look, but which he managed to break down and make more dynamic with the short pants, which brought an interesting play with proportion to his outfit.
Ty Dolla Sign
Ty Dolla Sign, who won Collaboration of the Year with Fifth Harmony for “Work from Home” wore a studded leather jacket at the 2016 American Music Awards. Shine on the red carpet always looks great as it brings depth to a look and photographs well.
Niall Horan
Singer Niall Horan wore a big pattern on the red carpet, which he broke down with an open shirt and a white (neutral) pocket square, which really worked well for him. We also liked the brown shoes, which made him look youthful and fun.
Donnie Wahlberg
Donnie Wahlberg was the cherry on top with his light pink jacket. While many people would disagree, pink is a color that actually goes well on men who want to look stylish and dapper. Pair it with dark clothes and you are all set. Really great job!
James Bay
James Bay, who also performed at the American Music Awards wore an interesting gray paisley. Such a print can be hard to pull off, as it can read quite old, but if you are a younger man like James, it definitely works greatly.
The night of the AMA was definitely a bright and colorful one with celebrities displaying great fashions at one of music industry’s main events. We’re definitely looking forward to seeing what our favorite celebrities will wear on the next carpets, as awards shows always make for great fashion inspiration.
