One of our mottos is “Finding elegance everywhere” and we like to practice what we preach. We believe that elegance is to be found not only in fashion and art, but also in manners, attitude and other fields. Today we want to showcase a tradition that has grown into a world-renowned name that is synonym with elegance: Fabergé. We love finding inspiration anywhere and want to share it with everyone!
The House of Fabergé is a jewellery firm founded in 1842 in St. Petersburg, Imperial Russia, by Gustav Faberge. He was a jeweler who was born in 1814 in modern-day Estonia. When he established his company, he used the accented name Fabergé. He died in 1893. His son, Peter Carl Fabergé was the inventor of the all-famous Fabergé eggs. He lived 74 years, between 1846 and 1920.
A Fabergé egg is a jeweled egg inspired from Easter eggs. The original eggs were made by the House of Fabergé between 1885 and 1917. Most of these eggs were miniature eggs and were worn around the neck on Easter.
The most famous eggs, are called the ‘Imperial’ Fabergé eggs. Approximately 50 eggs were made out of which 42 have survived. These eggs were made for Alexander III and Nicholas II of Russia. These eggs are made out of precious metals and gem stones and are regarded as masterpieces of the jeweler’s art. An egg was made every year, and as said, some of them have been destroyed or lost.
Fabergé still has a great reputation, as the Rothschild Fabergé egg became the record price for a piece of Fabergé as well as the highest price ever paid for a Russian object and the most expensive price for a timepiece. It was auctioned in 2007 for £8.98 million.
Today we want to share with you some of today’s creations by the House established by Gustav Fabergé. We’re glad to see that they have kept their elegance and charm, even though they have adopted this elegance to the world of today.
Have a look!
