We invited a series of designers, artists and outstanding bloggers to write about their vision, work and inspiration and created a new category on Attire Club called “In Their Own Words”. Each week a new person takes the stand and discusses beauty and creativity from their perspective.
Dimitris Tzavellas is the imminent designer and craftsman behind Rthens. He is 30 years old and has graduated from the Jewelry School of Athens in 2003, turning inspiration into creativity ever since. Even though he designs for women, we asked him to write a piece for Attire Club and he was kind enough to let us have a glimpse into his creative process and story. This helps us to see how some regard and welcome beauty in their lives and inspires us to create beauty in our own ways.
Rthens: From Athens with love
Unique handmade creations for original people
“Rthens Handmade Jewelry” is the first attempt to present my work via internet, which – surprise surprise – has to do exclusively with handmade jewelry I have designed and crafted. I have chosen to work with noble metals, because gold & silver render my designs better, giving them the closest to my ideas form, while it makes them time resistant and special. Cold enamel is also a material I find very intriguing and have been using to give a fusion effect to my creations.
I have been introduced to the jewelry art at a very early age, since my father, Hercules, has been an esteemed goldsmith for more than 40 years, working mostly on classic designs and making fine pieces of art, extremely difficult to craft and so mythical to my eyes, like his name.. I spent more than 6 years by his side, learning the standard techniques and working on some of my own and fortunately for me I still get his assistance, whenever I need it, because his passion for this art is alive and spreading!
Having a thing for handmade creations and loving to see squiggled sketches coming to shape, I decided to create unique pieces, which would make me satisfied and possibly the one who would wear them, groovy!
Working on old jewelry, giving them a different dimension and style, is also something I take pleasure in, as well as “directed” creations, depending on a personalized theme or idea.
Here’s a sample of my work, while one can check out more at www.rthens.blogspot.com. I shall be happy to know what you think and hopefully to make you embrace my style.

I like his designs because they look hand-made, but not in an amateurish way!
You are right, they are very interesting in this sense!
i am not very sure about the first accessories, but I love the pharaoh earrings!
The earrings are indeed amazing, but we like all the pieces. It’s really each to his own!
