Golfing in winter
If you love sports, it doesn’t matter what season it is!There are a lot of ways in which you can incorporate your passion into your style and use your favorite sport as a winter theme as well! The right actions, atmosphere and objects can create a great environment in any season!
For golfers, winter is not an obstacle when it comes to their sport of choice, but a moment to get better at their skills and to practice their swing. Sadly, most golfers can’t play in winter, but this is no reason to stop practicing. OK, granted, if you live in Australia, you can golf in a t-shirt on Christmas day, but otherwise you will either need to stay inside and practice or take special measures. Here are some ideas that can keep you on your toes in the time of the mistletoe.
1. Practice without hitting the ball. You can practice your golfing moves indoors (if you have a large enough space) without actually hitting a ball. This will help you maintain and even improve your shoulder turn, tempo and balance.
2. You can also practice in the mirror (some suggest to also practice in slow motion) and work on your posture and see yourself work with a critical eye. You can also film yourself golfing during the summer time and watch the videos in winter to see what you do right and what you do wrong. Take those home videos out and watch them close!
2. For those who are brave enough to hit the filed, walk instead of using the cart. Walking will keep you warm, while driving in the cart might make you just want to turn back!
3. Keep your hands warm. There are several ways in which you can keep your hands warm. For example, you can keep a few hand warmers in your pockets, Â attach mits (with velcro for example) to the trolly so that you can put your hands straight in as you push, and make sure you wear perfect gloves.
4. Keep your balls warm. OK, all jokes aside, warm balls fly more than cold ones, so try to heat your balls on a radiator before you go on the course and then keep in them in a pocket or a warm place until you need to use them!
5. Try adjusting your expectations for the winter season. Conditions are so different, that it would be strange to have a summer performance in the winter time.
Gifts for a golfer
Oh, Christmas tee, oh Christmas tee…
The shopping season for the holidays is under way and there is no better gift to give an avid golfer than something that has to do with golfing. This remains the case even if you are both the avid golfer and the gift giver. Making a nice present for yourself has never hurt anyone!
Here are some things that might make a golfer’s holidays a little brighter:
1. Golfing shirts. A golfer can never have enough of those! Some well-established designer brands offer high-quality golf shirts and offering a special shirt is a great way to show your love and support! Hugo Boss shirts make a great gift for any man who enjoys golfing. You can even get them on-line and avoid baring the cold weather of the winter. Speaking of places where you can find amazing golfing equipment, Function 18 have a great range of mens golf shirts, and they are all available on-line!
2. Personalized balls. A personalized gift is always something nice to receive. If you wish to give a golfer a personalized ball, you can actually give him two (at least): one to keep as a souvenir and one to hit on the course until the inscription is all gone. You can write his name on it, a special message, the name of your club, business or something else, or simply “Christmas 2013”. We are sure this is something an avid golfer will appreciate.
3. Travel bags. It is said that golfers are usually enthusiastic travelers. What is better for a traveler than a brand new travel bag? Nowadays, travel bags come in all shapes and sizes and fit every need taste. There are even backpacks that turn into a suitcase.
3. The Display case. In case your golfer friend doesn’t have a display case where he can showcase all the places he’s been to and his potential awards, he needs one! Just make sure he has room for it!
4. Personalized tees. Earlier we mentioned personalized balls. Well, why not go for personalized tees? One more item for the display case – check!
5. A lesson from a local pro. And, as we know, it’s not all about the material gifts you give, it’s also a lot about the other things as well. A lesson from a professional can be a wonderful experience for a golfer, a trip to a special field or a meeting with an idol can be events that turn into amazing memories which will last a lot of years to come!
To conclude, we can say that golfing can be a great theme for the Christmas season and that there are ways in which you can incorporate your passions into your style and viceversa. You just have to know where to look.
All this being said, we can go ahead and wish all our golfer friends
A Merry Christmas!
Fraquoh and Franchomme
P.S. Are you a golfer? What do you do in winter? Do you go out or do you practice at home?

I used to work in a golf equipment store (in connection with a golf course), without even having a green card. Usually I recommended Callaway for purchase!
Hey Kajsa,
We did not know you worked in a golf equipment store, it’s great to find out new things about the bloggers we like!
🙂
My uncle is an avid golfer, he would sure like to receive an autographed ball!
That would really make a good gift!
