Dolce and Gabbana is one of the most famous fashion brands in the world; and they are so famous for a reason. In 1985, when the brand launched, it became synonymous with lace and leopard prints, corsets and rosaries and a deep interest for the world of fetishes and fantasy. Because they had such a powerful image, the brand drew the attention of very famous personalities, such as Sophia Loren and Madonna, and became a household name.
Today, the brand remains extremely Italian and full of sensuality, but their designs have seen a positive decrease in sparkle and an increase in elegance and sophistication.
For the fall-winter 2014 menswear collection, the Italian made a fascinating exploration by taking a dive in the world of Italian history. The inspirations for their collection were the stories of the Norman kings of Sicily. The result was absolutely amazing and truly regal. In terms of design, they continued their label’s recent trend of oversize tops and sweatshirts in enlarged proportions. These carried images of royal men and armed soldiers. The use of similar imagery (which was apparently hand-painted) on sharply-tailored suits was a fine touch as well. These also used beautiful architectural motifs as well. These completed the world of the brave medieval kings.
Domenico Dolce commented on their collection, stating that:Â Â “The Norman period in Sicily is fascinating, it was the first time that the people from the extreme North of Europe fought their way down to the South.”
The collection, which was presented during Milan Fashion Week featured many amazing fabrics such as sheepskin, silk and wool, which were used to create elegant pieces such as suits, double-breasted jackets, beautiful velvet and tuxedo jackets and fabulous accessories, such as well-crafted shoes and elegant ties. Classic leather gloves were transformed into works of art by adding steel pins and gemstones to the design. Seeing actual crowns on the runway got us thinking: “Where can wear a crown? They are so great, that, if there is no appropriate occasion to wear a crown, we should make one!”
The timeless luxury of the collection was also expressed on a chromatic level: even though the colors of the creations were simple, they were highly elegant and looked amazing on the models. They made colors like gray, teal, green and brown look really imperial and worthy for a king.
So, after almost a thousand years, the Normans seem to be the center of attention again, but in another manner, which is the Dolce and Gabbana fw 2014 menswear collection! Have a look at a selection of our favorite looks and flip through the pages of the gallery!

P.S. What did you think of the collection? Would you wear a crown? If you would, when do you think is an appropriate occasion to be wearing one?

Who can forget a crown hihi, how great, sometimes time is necessary to appreciate different fashion concepts. You are of course entitled to have your opinions, I sometimes need time myself.
