Street photography, more specifically street fashion photography has seen a huge rise in the last years. In the last years, a lot of websites allow members to upload their street style photos and share them with the world. There are also millions of fashion bloggers in the world who share their looks and we became curious and wanted to find out more about this phenomenon. But we wanted to go deeper, so we arranged a series of posts written by different bloggers who agreed to write about what style is in their country or region. It’s amazing to see how people see style in different corners of the world and what influences it: the weather, the economy and other factors!
Victor Stonem is a guy from the Dominican Republic who blogs at Idle Vibes. The Dominican Republic is a nation situated on the island of Hispaniola, which is part of the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region.
We asked him to write a guest post for our website, which he accepted and here is what his reply was:
” In my country, beauty is something different for each person. Everybody has their own point of view about it.
The normal standard of beauty is usually someone fit, with clear skin, high cheekbones and things like that, which is a little bit sad.
But I think that most of the people here will consider that confidence and a good sense of humor make someone attractive, the physical aspect is just a bonus.
People who look different are normally seen as weird, they will usually be judged by the others because people here criticize a lot, and I think that’s pretty rude. You know, people dress to express themselves but if you do it in a different way, people will make fun of you.
The fashion scene in my country is constantly changing and moving forward, we have our fashion week (Dominicana Moda) and every year we’ve had special guests like Elie Saab and this year we’ll have Frankie Morello. So, I think we’re actually growing a little bit in terms of fashion.
We also have a lot of high fashion shops. The Italian menswear brand Brioni (which is one of my favorites), will open a shop; we also have Louis Vuitton, Carolina Herrera, and many more.
There are lots of emerging fashion bloggers right now, people that like to share their style and have a very keen mind and perspective about fashion, which I think is great. “

Excellent article. Fashion street style photography is certainly putting a ‘new face’ on style inspiration. It’s no longer all about what is presented on the runway.
You;re definitely right! We’re glad you enjoyed the article!
Very colorful place!
It sure is!
