In Her Own Words: Model Cristina Saracut

From a Harper’s Bazaar editorial, July 2015

Cristina Saracut (sərə’kut͡s) is a Romanian-born model whose beauty and grace have taken her around the world. She started modeling at the age of 17, but soon enough, after moving to Germany, she was traveling the world posing for many famous publications and wearing the creations of designers from all over the world. She was featured in publications such as Vogue, Runway Magazine France, Fashion Affair, InStyle Germany, Elle Germany, and many more. In 2014, she was chosen as the third most beautiful woman in the world by Mode Lifestyle Magazine, which is known for their annual feature on the best-looking women.

But there’s more to Cristina than her beauty.

For this In Their Own Words feature, Cristina is discussing her career as a model, her role models and what it’s like to be considered one of the most beautiful people in the world.

Tell us a little about the way you started out in modeling. When and how did you realize you could be a model and how did you actually become one?

When I was 15 years old, I already knew I wanted to be a model. I was always buying all kinds of fashion magazines, watched catwalk shows on TV and tried to find out more about the industry. Later, when I turned 17, I started modeling for several shops and boutiques in Romania. However, I started doing at a more professional level when I was scouted by the SMC Model Management by Veronique Kern agency in Germany.

What does it take to be a model?

Lots of self-control, being aware of your image at all times, taking care of your skin and health….

Who are your role models in the world of modeling?

Of course the supermodels such as Claudia Schiffer and Gisele Bündchen.

What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in your career?

I would be far more successful if I were 178 cm (5 feet 9) and not 176 cm (5 feet 10) tall.

Did you have a moment when you knew you had made it as a model?

Sure, when you see yourself in magazines….  Feels at least like it.

You were featured in the 3rd position on Mode Lifestyle Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful Women in the World in 2014. How does that make you feel? Does it boost your confidence or does it put pressure on you?

From a Beau Monde editorial, January 2015

Honestly, I was informed before the magazine announced the results. I did not really pay to much attention to it, as I was very busy at that time. And then, when newspapers, TV stations and other media outlets started calling me for interviews, at first it felt somehow strange… but it has neither pressured me, nor did it boost my confidence…

What advice do you have for young people (both boys and girls) who want to start modeling?

I need to say that an active mother agency is the key to success. Of course, you also need to meet the requirements of height and measurements, which need to be combined with having the right face for the market and lots of passion for this job. And you need lots of patience and confidence.

Thank you!

Fraquoh and Franchomme
