An ESPY Award (which is an acronym for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award) is an accolade presented by US broadcast television network ABC (previously by ESPN) that recognizes outstanding individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performances during the calendar year preceding the ceremony.

The ESPYS are a great occasion to put together a show and to reward the best sportspeople, who can be true inspirations for those pushing themselves to the limit in any given field or for those who look for workout and sports motivation.

Every awards show brings with itself a red carpet on which the stars of the night walk showcasing great fashion.

Take a look at what the world’s biggest athletes and top celebrities wore at the Microsoft Theater for the 2016 ESPYS:

 

Russell Wilson

 

 

Football player (that is American football for our non-American friends) Russell Wilson wore a beautiful pink jacket. He accessorized it with a contrasting black bow tie. Here’s a great fashion rule you can see put into practice by Mr. Wilson: If you are bigger guy, wear bigger accessories, as they will go great with your body!

 

 

Usher and Sugar Ray Leonard

 

 

The casual vibe of the ESPYS allowed singer Usher to get away with wearing a great burgundy sports jacket, which we loved. His long chain was also a great way to break out his outfit.

And speaking of breaking outfits; boxer Sugar Ray Leonard broke down his classic suit jacket with a light-blue pocket square, which is something any guy can do if he wants to elevate his style when he’s wearing a classic suit.

 

 

Stephen Curry

 

 

Basketball player Stephen Curry wore a very shiny blue suit. The jacket, while a bit too flexible, was a great alternative to the classic black jacket. The dark lapels gave it a more elegant vibe and the slim tie completed the look. Remember, if you are a guy with a longer, slimmer frame, skinny ties are the ties for you.

 

 

Gus Kenworthy

 

 

24 year-old Gus Kenworthy wore an impeccable suit from Brooks Brothers. We really enjoyed the pro skier’s overall look, which could have gone south easily with three accessories. Another lesson you can take away from his look is to always unbutton your lowest button when you are standing up.

 

 

DeAndre Jordan

 

 

Basketball player DeAndre Jordan wore a green suit to the 2016 ESPYS. Green is not the most elegant color for a suit, but we DeAndre made it work by wearing it with a top shirt and a beautiful lapel boutonnière. We also loved his hairstyle, which was effortless and natural, but polished to greatness. Great job!

 

 

Terrell Owens

 

 

Football player Terrell Owens’ 2016 ESPYS Awards look was a great example of how you can be both casual and dressy at the same time. Terrell wore a great jacket that featured a floral print with a pair of burgundy pants. We always say that for great sartorial results, you should wear a printed piece with a piece in one of the colors featured on the print. Well done!

 

 

Daniel Steres

 

 

Soccer (or football for our European friends) player Daniel Steres had a great look at the 2016 ESPYS. We really enjoyed his classic suit, the colorful bow tie and, most of all, that he wore brown shoes and a brown belt, which broke down his outfit and gave it volume, depth and visual interest!

 

 

Pedro Barros

 

 

Brazilian skateboarder Pedro Barros wore a dark suit accessorized with a bright, printed bow tie. The reason we think this outfit is great is because it takes the skateboarding aesthetic, based on bold blocks of color and translates it into an evening look.

 

The casual nature of the ESPYS allowed the stars who walked the red carpet to put on a colorful fashion presentation. We really enjoyed the colorful suits, the sharp tailoring and, most of all, the great attitudes.
