At the end of this summer, we have created a style portfolio focusing on the relationship between duality and similarity.
The 2×2 spring-summer Style Portfolio comes as a conclusion of the 2016 warm season and brings in discussion the concept of inspiration and sameness.
To do that, we have created two t-shirts and two bracelets. In each of the pairs, the viewer is invited to ask themselves: which one came first and which one is the derivate? Of course, the purpose of the mini collection is that you cannot tell, which one came first: the t-shirt with the black and white checks and white contrast fabrics or the one with the orange contrast fabric and slightly different pocket shape. Also, the same goes the blue bracelets: which one was the initial concept: the silver or the golden one? It’s pretty much like the chicken and the egg dilemma.
The reason why we wanted you to ask yourself these questions is because our intention was to prove that an original item has power from within itself, even though it is inspired or derived from something else. The saying that good art is art that hides its inspiration applies in this case in way as well, even though the discussion about in which instances fashion is art is a discussion we like to keep open.
The pictures play with the balance with tough and soft, smooth and rough, up and down – it’s all about making opposites either attract or work together.
On a practical level, we worked on striking a balance between clothing and accessories, to offer a complete experience, even though it is a limited one. Two boxy cotton t-shirts, playing on the oversized concept, which has been trendy for a few seasons now in the menswear world, which seem almost hand-made and dream-like, were matched to sharp, small and detail-oriented bracelets. The bracelets will become a part of our capsule collection, as they are timeless, versatile and very practical.
We chose to shoot the pictures in a rather natural setting, as nature is all about balance and beauty, which result from dynamism. It’s very much what Albert Einstein referred to when he said: “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”
