The Hardy Amies Fall-Winter 2016 Collection in Review

Darren Barrowcliff, head of design at Hardy Amies looked at classic menswear for the label’s fall-winter 2016-17 men’s collection. Focusing on clean tailoring and a masculine attitude, the collection was a sophisticated take on menswear essentials.

The impeccable wardrobe suggested by the British label featured autumnal colors that were complemented with timeless neutrals such as grey and black. The collection, which was presented during London Collections: Men featured everything from quintessential outerwear styles such as a camel coat to refined wool cargo suits and knitwear.

The range of beautiful luxury garments presented by the brand paid homage to classic British tailoring traditions and was a great example of how day-to-day pieces and be easily turned into veritable fashion items. In other words, Hardy Amies showed how true sophistication is truly timeless. Moreover, the elegant evening wear, the business-ready suits and dynamic everyday items stayed true to the label’s heritage both from an aesthetic point of view, focusing on simplicity and well-picked details as well as on utilizing the finest materials and sharp cuts, which are the hallmarks of the brand.

We are always drawn to collections that have a timeless yet contemporary take on fashion and that are the same time futuristic, not necessary in an arts history sense, but in the sense that they are looking towards the future, which is also a characteristic Hardy Amies himself had.

This outlook is a good part of fashion is or, at least, of what it should be.

The Savile Row’s concept for the collection was “without”, according to Barrowcliff, who completed his description of the collection by saying that it is features “classic Savile Row lines with softness.”

Overall, at the moment the brand is heading in a good direction, offering pieces with an emphasis for luxury designed for the modern gentleman who is always on the lookout for the next great thing.
