How to Take Care of Your Skin in the Summer

Summer is coming – and if it will be like a nice and classic summer, it will be sunny and hot. Thus, unlike Balmain’s virtual fashion models, us humans need to make sure we take care of our skin day in and day out in order to prevent any health issues and to make sure we have a fresh and clear face.

The effect of sunlight on the skin on your face can be quite bad both in the short and long run if you are not careful. Aside from the redness and the burning sensation long exposure to sunshine may cause, there is also the increased risk of melanoma as we age (studies have shown that the risk of men developing skin cancer grows exponentially as they age). Thus, proper sun protection is vital – and many men don’t take it seriously despite the warnings of dermatologists around the world. Today, let’s take a look at a simple but effective skin care routine to keep your face healthy across the summer.

Keep it clean

Although you may be tempted to think otherwise, the skin on your face is different from the rest of your body and, as such, it needs special care. Don’t just wash it with regular soap – the chemicals in most soaps are too harsh to be used on your face and may dry it out, which can lead to a variety of problems. Instead, wash your face with warm water to open up your pores, then clean it with a face wash. Finally, wash your face with cool water to close your pores. This way, you will prevent dirt and oil from clogging them.

If you need it, you can also use a face scrub once or twice a week to get rid of the dead skin cells building up on your face. Exfoliating is very important, but it should not be done too often.

Steam is a very good deep skin cleansing solution that has been around for a long time. You could look into the best portable saunas so you can set one up at home to use once a week or so. The humidity and heat from the steam will open your pores, allowing you to get rid of all the junk that has been accumulating in there.

Moisturize

Whenever you know you will be exposed to the sunlight for a long time, make sure to use a moisturizing sunscreen on your face. This is something most dermatologists would recommend for men – never to leave home without sunscreen (at least SPF30 or more) on your face. Even though this is very important, it’s also essential to remember not to overdo it – a dime-sized amount will cover your entire face, using any more is just a waste of time and money. Also, it is possible that your skin won’t absorb all the cream, which can make your skin sticky and thus a dust magnet.

Wear a hat and sunglasses

Last but not least, one of the best things you can do for your face is to wear a hat and sunglasses. These are not just stylish accessories, but useful ones, too – a hat will prevent the sun from unleashing its heat directly on your face and sunglasses will protect your eyes and the sensitive skin around, thus helping you prevent getting wrinkles. Many brands offer really large sunglasses these days, which not just look bold and cool, but are great for your protection as well.

In short, there are a few things you can do to treat your skin well during the warm season, and these things can be applied regardless of your style (for example, you can wear sporty sunglasses with a baseball cap if you are a sporty guy or a more classic hat, like a Panama hat with a pair of classic Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses if you want to look more dressy), budget and age.
