For their newest menswear collection for the cold season, Fendi updated classic state-of-the-art staples with a youthful vibe. The collection, which featured an impressive 61 looks combined elements from every part of life. As Silvia Venturini Fendi was saying a few seasons ago, the modern man needs clothes that mix the various aspects of life, as he himself is a mix. Today, we see a blend of business and leisure, as this is for many the new way to live and work, and hence, to dress.
The collection is a departure from the sporty vibe that characterized the last seasons of Silvia’s creations. Over the last seasons, Fendi has shown the world how athleisure can be done rightly, but now, things are changing up a little bit it seems.
The show opened with a quirky jacket drawn by Karl Lagerfeld. The blazer’s most intriguing feature was its lapels, one notched, the other shawl-style. This was in a way a take on the controversial or unclear of masculinity today, which is momentarily pulled in every direction, confusing many on the way.
The idea of half-and-half was in many ways the red thread of the collection. We could see jackets split into two right down the middle – a half in one color and the other in another. Wherever you look in the collection, you can see this interesting coming together (or going apart) of a solid concept.
The shades of beige, brown, tan gave the collection a very upscale, wealthy vibe, whereas the brighter colors that followed towards the end brought it back to the street. Moreover, parkas and puffas in organza and nylon gave it a sporty vibe, which compensate – or, better, completed the sharp tailoring of the other highly polite pieces. “The sportswear is there but it’s made in a very sophisticated way. I adore sportswear, and I don’t think anyone can deny it in this world. There are changes happening and I don’t want to go back to the old rules. But I still think there is not just one dictate. You have to combine things,” Silvia explained.
“Dualism is in the DNA of Fendi, under every form,” she also added, which is, in many ways a reflection of the duality of humans themselves. This is why, this collection was a really amazing one, which deserves to make its way in the lives of many men across the world.
