The most recent installment of Milan Fashion brought once again many great styles to Italy’s fashion capital, but it was the big brands that took the spotlight. The spring-summer 2020 men’s collections were marked by a freshness trend, where designers seemed to look for the new (most likely given that they were designing for a year ending in a 0). We could see some unexpected things, such as many puffy pants, but there were many interesting things to see as well.
Check out our roundup:
Emporio Armani
Emporio Armani is almost always on our list of great FW picks. For the spring-summer 2020 season, the label proposed a huge collection that featured over 100 looks, which were quite varied, ranging from classic suits and more conceptual pieces to sportswear. While the collection did not stand out as much as their collections from previous seasons, it was still a success.
Versace
For the spring-summer 2020 season, Versace offered a very cool aesthetic: a mix of rogue and normie. We could see a lot of amazing leather pieces, which had a really badass vibe cut into very classic, tapered shapes. These looks were mixed with a variety of really colorful outfits, which featured many types of prints: from geometric to bold animal prints. It was a collection that really proposed a lot and we really loved that!
Etro
Even though the 70s hippie trend has been remixed so many times over the last seasons and we thought we had seen enough of it, Etro’s version came as a wrecking ball and was our favorite of all. The reason why we prefer their take on the flower-power aesthetic is because they made it fun and upbeat, it had a little humor and joy to it rather than nostalgia and camp – taking things that are not serious seriously, which is what many others did.
Missioni
At Missioni, it was a very on-trend collection, but we did enjoy the soft colors and the heavy fabrics, which are very in these days. We can definitely see many of the pieces make their way into the closets of many men of various ages from around the world.
DSquared2
The DSquared2 collection stayed true to the brand’s fun and upbeat energy and was summery, classic and cool at the same time. It was not the most innovative thing in the world, but it did work and it was highly wearable, which is something we always appreciate.
It’s interesting that it seems that we are entering a time when trends are more established and not just very general (for example many brands used leopard prints and neon colors), so it’s definitely interesting to see what many brands will do for the upcoming seasons and how the seasons of 2020 will look visually and what this will mean for society at large.
