For the autumn-winter 2020 season, Emporio Armani has proposed a massive collection of almost 100 looks that covered everything from sportswear to suits. The overarching theme of the collection was the reimagining of classic winter clothes. Nothing too extraordinary, but something that works and that makes for a valid and noteworthy collection, especially in the sea of so-called avant-garde looks that are created these days by so many brands.
Patterns like herringbones, checks and glen plaids were all part of the collection and were presented in a fresh and cool way. Thus, Mr. Armani appealed to a younger audience.
The first thing that was interesting about this collection was that pieces were “augmented” rather than oversized and that the effect really worked. This way, the items were runway ready and sure to make an impact, but they did not lose the wearer or look too big and irrelevant, something we’ve seen too much of lately.
This collection, which features everyday essentials such as coats (we loved the special “belt” details), shirts pants and jackets, is everything the EA man needs to make it in the hectic world of the near future. It also featured ski jackets and boots. One of the main ideas of the collection was that today’s young audience does not compartment clothes as strongly as they did in the past and that many clothes can be worn in various contexts, not just in one. Moreover, the brand took on the idea of streetwear, which these days is defined by hoodie, joggers and sneakers and transformed it into sportswear: a more clear view on the trend. The collection was not overly-adorned or highly embellished, but it was nevertheless stylish and unique. And that is in many ways what the man of today needs to face: a rather harsh world in which he still has the ability to maintain his originality, but in which he needs to be attentive at all the things that go on around him.
In terms of colors, the collection was mostly dark, but featured some great pops of deep colors like red or scarlet, which brought depth and a sense of youthfulness to it.
To conclude, it can be said that the Emporio Armani autumn-winter 2020 collection was a success, in that brought something fresh without being too strange and because it featured fun and gritty clothes suited for different types of urban gentlemen.
