The autumn-winter 2020 menswear collection by Casablanca is a take on fashion that we’ve waited for a while. It’s dressy and modern and at the same time whimsical and dynamic. The collection features many sleek clothes, form shirts to coats to pants, which are made from soft fabrics in soft colors. There are many patterns present (apparently the prints were made made by a small in-house team), some of which are rather mature and elegant, while others are childlike. This combination is a bit odd and a conversation on whether it works can be had, but what is clear is that it does go in a good direction.
Menswear has lacked high sartorial elegance for some years now and feels very new (even though it is not) when we see something that is celebratory and fun walk down the runway. The muted colors, the clean lines and the hyper-accessories (pearls, anyone?) give the collection somewhat of a Chanel feel. Chanel-light, if you will. Generally, there is not much menswear by Chanel out there and this collection in a way feels like a proposal for what a men’s collection by Chanel could look like.
The atmosphere of the collection was quite picturesque and spoke Charaf Tajer’s inspiration: the Lake Garda in northern Italy, as perceived through his French-Moroccan background – a creative technique that is very on trend these days. But the collection of the Paris-based brand worked, as it really gave out a feel of blue skies and cold fields.
Overall, the collection was quite good and a bit unexpected, but it could have been pushed more towards the high-end side of things. Of course, opinions may vary.
The reception of the collection was mixed, with many people gravitating towards it, while others disliking its overall vibe.
With its quite good taste, the travel atmosphere and mix of elements, the Casablanca Autumn-Winter 2020 collection was definitely one of the most noteworthy of the season.
