4 Winter Essentials for Men and Women

Having the right equipment for over the winter is absolutely essential, but knowing which pieces are best can be a little trickier. In this article, we’ll be looking at which winter wear pieces are best for outdoor venturers this winter. Whether it’s sturdy footwear for men, women’s Ted Baker jackets, or anything else in between, we’ve got you covered.

A long coat is great for those who go out a lot in the winter.

Arguably the most important item any person could have in their wardrobe this winter, a good winter coat is an absolute essential. If you plan on spending a fair bit of time outdoors in the cooler months, it’d be wise to invest in a good quality winter coat that’ll last you the season.

It’s important to find one that will keep you warm without being too bulky or cumbersome. This will be something you’ll need to consider when it comes to assessing the type of weather you expect to face. Some areas may not have much snow, while the further north you go, the colder the weather is, usually!

There are many different options for you to go for, so we don’t think you’ll struggle to find one that suits you and does everything you need it to. There’s a misconception that a good winter coat has to be heavy and bulky, but that isn’t true; a slimmer fitting one can do just as good of a job.

Woolly socks

Wool socks

Wool socks can be the difference between a chilly walk in the snow and having the coldest day of your life, especially if it’s wet outside and the conditions aren’t great. They’re a great way for you to keep your feet warm when it gets colder. A good pair of winter woolly socks provide a great level of insulation for your feet, which is really important as you look to avoid as much heat-loss as possible.

When you’re out shopping for woolly socks this winter, you should look for some that are comfortable but fit quite snugly, not bunching up around your ankles as they’ll need to be pulled up often and won’t provide a good level of insulation for your feet and lower legs.

If you want to go all-out, invest in some durable merino wool socks as they’re the best money can buy, helping to keep you comfortable and your feet warm even when the weather is freezing cold. They don’t come cheap, but they’re most definitely worth the investment.

Winter boots

A staple in any outdoor lover’s wardrobe, or they should be, is a good pair of winter boots that are durable, practical, and comfortable. Having a good pair means you won’t need to worry about having to risk going out in trainers and ending up dripping wet and frozen to the bone.

When you’re out shopping for winter boots, there are many different options that you can go for. You could go all out and invest in some that come halfway up to your shins. While these can be a great investment and keep you dry and warm, this may come at the expense of comfort. That being said, make sure that you don’t wear winter boots whilst driving!

On the flip side, more practical winter boots often don’t provide the same sense of protection, even if they are sturdier. They’ll still shield you from the elements and help make any trip out in the cold just a little more enjoyable. Additionally, shorter winter boots are cheaper, and although they may not be as good looking, they can still look good when paired with the right clothing.

Hats, gloves, and scarves

You should definitely ensure you have some winter accessories ready for when the temperature plunges. The most common items that people go for in the winter are hats, gloves, and scarves, as they help protect you from the elements and can also elevate your entire outfit.

When buying a hat, you shouldn’t prioritize aesthetics and fashion over practicality. While some hats may look cool and have great street appeal, their main purpose is to keep your head warm and prevent heat loss. You should look for something that’s warm, comfortable, and fits snugly.

Scarves are often an afterthought but are a great way to keep your chest and neck areas warm and your layering optimal. You can go for something easier on the eye here, as long as it does what it’s supposed to and doesn’t sacrifice looks for warmth.

With these winter essentials, you are sure to get through the cold season in both comfort and style, which is what fashion is all about!
