A First Look At Patterns (B)

Patterns are a fabulous way to make an outfit stand out from the crowd. Patterns can be checkers, polka dots, stripes, drawings and so much more. However, patterns are something that you can very easily go wrong with.

This season, men`s fashion is all about prints and colors!  Read the following lines and you might just find out a few tips so that you never go wrong! First of all, you can mix patterns, but not if they are too similar. This is the one big rule. Wearing patterns that look the same will make you look like an optical illusion. Also, try not to overdo it. To learn more on this topic, we recommend our article “The Difference Between Being Overdressed And Well- Dressed“.

Of course, designers go really wild with their creations and promote a very colorful world this season.

According to Prada or Givenchy, there`s almost no wrong way to wear a print, and they are on to something. If you look at their runway shows, they are really going wild. Some fashion designers chose to go African, while others decided that this season army`s back! McQueen even went for a feather print! So you can choose any print you want, and you`re set to go! Well, it’s not that easy! Here is some advice on how to wear a floral, animal or any print! If you want to draw attention, you should do a printed shirt with no blazer or anything on top, so that it stands out, and pair it with pants that are in contrast ( for example blue – orange) to colors you wear on your shirt! Camouflage should be worn combined with a neutral piece.

If you don`t want to go this far, you can wear your top with a dark-colored jacket. You can also layer a nice cardigan.

Basically, patterns should be worn with solid colors. It’s really hard to wear only patterns and pull it off. Since you just want to learn the first thing about patterns (which is why you are reading this article), we think the picture is a good example. A solid pair of pants, with a solid shirt and tie go great with a patterned suit, which comes in the colors (or non-colors ) of the other worn items. That’s something very easy and something you can do.  Of course, you can wear patterned pants with a solid jacket or a pattered shirt with a solid jacket and pants.

There is no rule for the amount of patterns you can have in an outfit, just that the more you have, the harder it is to make them work. So, if you are a beginner, try sticking to one pattern and then work your way up.
