A holiday like Valentine’s day can be a tricky event if you need to buy a gift for someone you like or wish to be your valentine!
As a general rule, it is known that if you are highly familiar with someone, you probably know what they like and you can even give them as presents things that otherwise are “forbidden”: like underwear or shower gels or creams.
A gift also shows the receiver what you see them as, so offering someone a frying pan might mean that you see them as someone who must cook for them.
In general, and especially if you celebrate Valentine’s day, it is very important to think about the message you send someone when you offer them a gift! This is why we thought of a few gifts which are generally appropriate to offer someone who you are let’s say dating. To make it easier, we chose the same things, in the female and male version!
So, you can buy….
Jewelery
For men: When it comes to giving jewelery to men, cufflinks and tie bars make the best choices! Make sure though, if you are buying cufflinks that the model does not have design that doesn’t fit the man’s personality or creeds: here we include cufflinks that have flags painted on them, cartoon characters and so much more!
For women: For women, a necklace is probably the best choice of gift. Also, a nice bracelet can work or a just a pendant.
In both cases, rings are not to be given, unless you want to marry that person.
Books
Well, this chapter can not be exactly split into two sections, but we recommend you buy something funny or a classic. Don’t go with books which have titles that imply political, religious or any other kinds of beliefs.
Accessories
When it comes to accessories, watches are probably the best choice. Giving a tie can be a little more personal, as offering a tie implies knowing the receiver’s wardrobe.
Collector’s pieces
If the person you want to buy a Valentine’s day gift for has a passion or a collection, you can get them something for that collection. Some people collect postcards, others like history memorabilia, which you can get at an antiques shop.
As general advice, we wouldn’t advise you to offer highly expensive things such as flat TVs or things someone can’t get rid of, like a personalized pillow or clothes.
Also, it’s very important not to give a very large gift if you are meeting someone in a public space. At home, it works better!
As a conclusion, we can say that flowers and chocolates also work and are always a nice gift, as long as the receiver does not have an allergy!
Happy Valentine’s!

Valentine’s day is a beautiful day! A day to celebrate and rekindle love. I like spontaneity and m always satisfied with whatever i get, it’s not the gift that matters, it’s the gesture behind it.
That’s such a nice way to see things:)!
Actually, I’m not the biggest fan of Valentine’s day, but I don’t hate it….I just think that you can tell someone you love every day and show every day how much you care. Since, my bf and I surprise each other during the year we don’t give special gifts on Valentine’s day. We do this when we feel like it….it don’t has to be a special day. But I totally agree to Style Reporter: it’s all about the gesture behind!
We wish you all the best!
some great suggestions!
Thanks, we’re glad they were helpful!

Good post! As a woman, I do love getting jewelry even if it isn’t super expensive. I think Blue Nile does a good job with Valentine’s Day jewelry ideas across many price points. My first piece of jewelry from my husband was from this site – a diamond heart pendant.
That’s so nice! 🙂
