Your Guide To Buying Cufflinks (B)

We often wrote about cufflinks on our blog, because we think they are an interesting piece of accessories and can truly Your Guide To Buying Cufflinksmake an outfit,  by making it more personal and original.

Cufflinks appeared about two hundreds years ago in the royal courts of France, and we’re happy that they have kept their elegant ideal and charm.

Cufflinks may be either single or double-length (“French”), and can be worn in tow ways: either “kissing,” which means that the ends are pinched together, or “barrel-style,” which means that one end will be overlapping the other.

So, here is what you need to look for when you buy cuffs:

  • First of all, before you go shopping, look for what you have in your wardrobe. If the main colors in your wardrobe are light colors such as white, pink, etc, you can choose cufflinks that come in colors such as burgundy or brown. You can also buy golden cufflinks, and by this we mean cufflinks that are made of or plated with gold. Don’t go for golden paint, as it is showing and cheap. You are better off with an original pair of cufflinks that are not so expensive than a cheap imitation.
  • In case you like to wear clothes that come in darker colors, such as black and browns, you should go for cufflinks that come in blues, greens or silver tones. Again, when we say silver, the same thing goes as for gold. Black clothes go best with silver that is.
  • Your cufflinks’ shape must follow the lines of your overall look. More relaxed events can be paired with cufflinks that have curves and are more rounded. Also shapes such as flowers and shamrocks go. At more formal events, you should go with straight lines and classic geometrical shapes.
  • If you wear cufflinks every day, you should not be afraid of cufflinks that are embellished with semi-precious stones ore more modern designs.
  • Additional information: If you wear themed cufflinks, they should only be worn at casual occasions or when you are trying to make a fashion statement. If you want to wear the American flag, the 4th of July is the best occasion to do so. Casual looks can also be embellished with a pair of silk knots.

Dear Herbert

Our point was that if you actually wear them so often, you should switch it up! This way, you won’t seem to be wearing a uniform every day. If you only wear cufflinks every once in a while, two or three pairs are enough.
