It appears that this season, all the great fashion houses have taken fashion to another level, combining different means of expression and placing the result on a piece of excellently cut clothing item. But what we noticed about the spring/summer 2013 collections for men is that they really integrated other ways of expression into clothing: architecture, painting and other elements were seen in many designs.
Also, it might seem that history has had a great impact on this season’s clothes: the items are either 20th century retro clothes upgrades to modern style or have more clear historic references incorporated in them as we will see later.
This season has been all about bright colors and opulent patterns. We have also seen the occasional mixed patterns and heavy patterns in chalky colors. (Chalky is what men call “pastel”). But not everyone chose to do this.
Today we focus on the Givenchy collection for men, which was signed by Riccardo Tisci. The collection suggests a window into the designer’s memories of his early years in Southern Italy. Of course we notice the religious/historic designs (we’re saying historic because they don’t only represent religion but also how religion was viewed in a certain time and space) and his own take, his own distant and uninvolved self in the religious sentiment. The fabrics and cuts also remind of a certain mysticism which was in a way combined with the pagan aspect of life. The bad part about this collection is that it needs a lot of outside interpretation, and globally speaking it is not universal.
While some designers used bold colors and patterns as we have already stated, Givenchy tried to be an exception and used mostly white, black, grey, red and pale pink. The fabrics used for this collection were mostly cotton, satin, silk and others, such as jersey or poplin.
The use of accessories was minimal, we could see sandals with rubber soles and chain details.
We chose a few of our favorites to share with everyone, but also one of each “set” so to speak, as many of the outfits you will see had several variations.

Hy!
Thank you for your comment, we’re happy you like the collection!
Loved this collection. I’m a big Riccardo Tisci fan.
Well, then this must have been a nice article for you!
I secretly wish more men would wear more pink!
Wow, it’s secrets revealing day:D!!
If you’ll read our upcoming article, we’ll debate on how fashion is used as a set of communicating tools, and why pink is not worn by many men.
Look forward to that. Of course clothes are ways to communicate!
Really liking the sleeveless blazer! Wishing that Zara or Topman will release an affordable version of it sometime soon…

This was a good collection, but it had too many directions in my opinion.
Well, then let’s just say it was “complex”.
