The Tom Ford FW 2013-14 Collection

Tom Ford is one of the most creative designers nowadays, being able to create high quality elegant clothes, yet keeping them simple and wearable.

The fall/winter 2013/2014 collection for men is a great example and source of inspiration and this is why we decided to discuss it today. Tom Ford said about the collection that “It’s the simple things, the tiny things you change, that move it along,”, and also mentioning that “I love a wide-cropped coat and there’s an anglophile aesthetic”.

With these two statements, he pretty much explained the whole collection, and gave us the lesson we need to learn from it. First of all, the details (such as the socks, buttons or accessories) change the outfits a lot, but it’s not just these things that make the collection special, it’s also the cut, the fabrics and the colors.

The creations have a 60s vibe, taken to another level by the amazing shiny textures and smooth materials. The collection is very end-year like, but nevertheless dynamic and bright. We see many browns, black, beige, sometimes different shades of purple but also pops of color, such as blue or orange. The collection is an inspiration for men who want to pair certain patterns and are not sure if they should.  Well, elegantologists, you can! And you should! Choose the patterns and colors that express what you want to communicate and mix them up, but make sure they are not too similar, or else, you might look like a mime or an optical illusion.

Have a look at the photos and let us know what you think.

Who doesn’t love A GORGEOUS midnight blue velvet jacket???
But my personal favorite is the ensemble that is all black on the bottom left. This look has buckets of texture. It’s rich and busy, but nothing clashes. A symphony (in the form of clothing).
Another great post, guys:)

Tom Ford has done a great job developing this collection with his team. Honestly I am liking the orange blazer the most, due to the fact that blue clothes are commonly used in Norway. An orange blazer would have been a sight 🙂
