Guest post: New Look 2014: How to Dress for the Office (B)

Your work environment can often feel like a box you can’t get out of, at least from a fashion point of view. People tend to wear the same things at the office, like they would a uniform. We have no idea why, uniforms are so outdated! Depending on the firm’s dress code, most men will be wearing pretty much the same thing: jeans and a plain t-shirt to casual workplaces, and black suits to more business-oriented offices. We’re here to save your style and bring you a few alternatives to the office uniform, all inspired by the latest trends from the runway:

A dressed up, but not at all stiff idea for workwear is inspired by this Saint Laurent ensemble designed for next fall. It pairs a white shirt, skinny tie and V-neck basic sweater with high waist pants and a skinny belt. The silhouette is flattering and lengthening. With patent shoes and classic sunglasses, the outfit is properly accessorized for work. Finish with a timeless houndstooth knee length coat, and you should be warm as well as stylish.

Ralph Lauren men

If your work environment allows it – like say, you’re in a creative field – you can get inspired by this Ralph Lauren look from the FW2014 collection. Instead of the usual black, this wool suit is brown, and instead of being worn with dress shoes, it features more comfortable sneakers. And while it has a shirt and tie combo, they’re worn under a neutral hoodie. It’s unusual, but it’s so warm, you’re gonna love it on cold days.

Dior Homme

Another casual, but appropriate, outfit for the workplace is this jeans and blazer combination from Dior Homme for Fall 2014. You’ll notice that the tie and shoes share a print, which is not something we recommend, unless your office is really casual. However, we do like the idea of fun shoes, which can mean a colored sole or pair of laces. If you decide to roll up your jeans, make sure your socks are the proper color, because you wouldn’t want to show any clown-like stripes during business hours.
