The Gieves and Hawkes Spring-Summer 2015 Collection in Review

The spring-summer 2015 menswear collection by Gieves and Hawkes was presented this month at London Collections: Men and caught our eyes with its new take on classic menswear.

The luxurious collection featured a fresh palette of colors, ranging from charcoals and neutrals to different shades of blue and light pops of accent colors. Keeping their tradition, Gieves and Hawkes offered a great variety of styles, which went from semi-formal daywear to formal eveningwear.

We could see knitwear, lightweight parkas, single- and double-breasted suits as well as shorts, trousers and stunning accessories. The scarves and ties featured in the collection are great pieces which we feel would match the wardrobes of many men from all around the world.

Jason Basmajian, who is now entering in his third season with Gieves and Hawkes, was inspired for this collection by the British seaside, namely the coastlines of Cornwall and Devon, hence the teal and aqua shades that were featured in the collection, as well as the grays, which are inevitable in a British summer. The fact that Basmajian grew up holidaying on Cape Cod probably had an influence on the shapes and colors of the wonderful collection as well.

The stunning thirty-five outfit collection also featured suede espadrilles, which, despite their informality, look amazing with the fine British tailoring of the pieces. We could also see other charming pieces, such as crocodile-trimmed totes which completed this “international English” collection, as Basmajian put it. After all, Gieves and Hawkes is a British brand with international ambitions, which makes the clothes a fine mix between traditional British heritage and global appeal. This being said, we can ask ourselves, who else could have been a better man to design the collection than Basmajian, who, before working for Gieves and Hawkes, worked at Italian brand Brioni.  He said that “When I worked at Brioni, we always used to joke that the Italians were better at interpreting British style than the British themselves. (…) Now that I’m here, I can put what I learned into practice.”

Gieves and Hawkes’ 200 year-old tradition is without a doubt expressed in these pieces, which redefine a series of men’s classic essentials.

The clothes are a lesson for all of us of how you can express yourself creatively and still maintain a certain decorum and wear timeless pieces. The clothes of the collection can be mixed among them to obtain new looks and, why not, new inspiration? Take a look at a gallery of our favorite looks from the collection and make your own decisions about the Gieves and Hawkes spring-summer 2015 collection!

mmmm love the suits but I’m still not sure about the shorts as evening wear, perhaps I’m behind the times eh?

Thank you for this post and my best regards to you.

James 🙂

Shorts can work well as eveningwear, but not as formal wear. You can wear them for example at a relaxed summer party!

It’s not the most colorful collection indeed, but sometimes neutrals can look amazing as well, as you said!
