Latest Grooms and Groomsmen Trends

It’s not all about the bride anymore!

Even though the wedding industry seems centered around the bride and her bridesmaids, the groom and his groomsmen also deserve an equal amount of attention. And when it comes to wedding fashion, there’s plenty to talk about in the world of grooms who are ready to get hitched. Moreover, if you are having a gay wedding, everything will be about the grooms!

Below are just a few of the latest fashion trends when it comes to a groom’s attire and style, and what he can pick out for his groomsmen to look their best. Remember that, if you’re afraid you can’t replicate these styles because they may be out of your budget, do as brides do when they get second hand wedding dresses and look for special deals, rentals, and other affordable options.

Extraordinary shoes

To bring a vintage feeling to your look for your wedding, you can ditch the traditional leather and opt instead for two-tone patent shoes that are truly different in today’s modern wedding scene. You can even do like some brides do and go for colorful shoes instead for a more unconventional look that will turn a lot of heads. These are sure to pop off against any tuxedo, and they’ll add a splash of uniqueness to your look for your big day.

Your shoes don’t always need to match your outfit, but they should go with it. This casual tuxedo is paired with black shoes for a safe bet

If you want to wear colorful shoes, make sure that your tuxedo is quite casual as well because colorful shoes do not go with a very formal tuxedo. The marks of a casual tuxedo are generally the color and the fabric: a casual tux will generally be made from a more relaxed fabric such as velvet and will come in a more surprising color, such as green, orange or burgundy. The cut, however, still needs to be very elegant and sleek.

Whatever type of shoes you decide to wear, make sure that they are comfortable. With comfort comes style and with style comes attitude!

Keep things casual

Simple accessories such as sunglasses can give your wedding a whole different tone

For a less formal wedding, you can keep the style of your groomsmen on the casual side rather than sticking with traditional tuxedos. For example, you can go with blazers that have a tie, belt, pocket square, or other object in the color of the overall theme of the wedding and the bridesmaid dresses. You can even have the guys wear khaki pants if you want to keep things simple yet chic.

Whatever the tone of your wedding may be, make sure that everything is cohesive. Your  outfit should have a common thread with your wife or husband’s outfit and with the looks of everyone else involved in the wedding. If you want the groomsmen to be more casual, then you can’t be very formal either.

Mismatch

Going with different colored suits or tuxedos for your groomsmen is yet another trend that’s becoming increasingly popular in the wedding world. While brides have been doing this with their bridesmaids for quite some time, groomsmen are now catching on. This allows each individual to choose the color that reflects his personality best and, like second hand wedding dresses, it can also save them a lot of money because they can use a suit or tuxedo they already own or they can purchase one that they feel they’ll use again in the future.

If you don’t want everything to match, that is OK, but for a harmonious and balanced look, you should know which colors go together well and which don’t. Discovering how to mix colors will have a lot of benefits, as you will create a coherent and strong color palette for your big event.

1920s

Perhaps the film The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, had a lot to do with this trend, but a lot of men are going with a dapper 1920s look that includes top hats and coat tails. A well-fitting suit is the centerpieceof this look, so make sure you and your groomsmen get fitted properly. And then go with whatever color you prefer and with a bow tie or tie of your choice.

If you are going for a look that references the glamorous life of the 1920s, make sure that it is an updated version of the suit and that it still looks modern. Otherwise, you risk looking like you are wearing a costume or that you think that you are a time traveler.

There are so many trends to follow in the wedding industry, even for grooms and their groomsmen. But these trends can make it easier for you to coordinate your look for your big day. And if you don’t like the trends, remember that you always have the option of going in the opposite direction and doing something completely different that really speaks to you and who you are as a groom.

I think that wearing special shoes can be a great idea, but I wouldn’t necessarily go for colorful shoes! Maybe shoes with a nice texture would look better!

Hi Lev S,

Thank you for the comment! We agree, a pair of neutral shoes with a great texture could look amazing as well!
