Your home should not only be a place to sleep at night, shower and eat in the morning, it should be, just like your clothes, an extension of you and should speak about who you are and what makes you tick.
Every living environment, whether it’s a dorm room or a five-bedroom house should make you feel comfortable and one with the place. Living in a personalized environment will improve your mood and it can also change the attitude you have towards things.
On the other hand, living in a space that feels contrarian to your personality and that is disorganized can make you be less productive, it can get you more tired more rapidly and it can even damage your sleep.
This is why it is very important to decorate your living space and to make the very best of it!
Most people are reticent to decorating and, even more so to re-decorating their houses, apartments or rooms because they feel that they need a lot of money to do it and that they can mess up the current décor, without being able to go back, while some are simply emotionally attached to their current décor.
However, there are a few simple things you can easily do to upgrade the look of your home without having to spend a lot of money or take time to re-furnish everything and without the risk of it going wrong.
It might sound unbelievable, but using some simple tips and tricks can make your living environment more pleasant and more comfortable, which can result in you feeling better and more empowered.
Blankets
Throwing on a cool blanket on a sofa, on a bed or on a chair is a very easy-to-do and effective way to style up the entire aspect of a room. The great thing about blankets is that they can be easily transferred from one location to another: one day, your blanket can sit on a sofa, the next day it can be placed on the bed. Moreover, blankets make great accessories to wear when you are sitting outside having a barbecue or hanging on the balcony on a cool evening. As you can see, a blanket can be lifestyle-changing.
Moreover, blankets are a perfect way to add personality to your home. Choosing a print, a pattern or a texture that speaks about who you are and what you enjoy is a great way to make yourself one with the environment and to let others learn more about you too.
Pillows
Another way to styling up your décor is adding pillows to a room. Just like blankets, pillows make great ways to express your personality and taste. The thing pillows do that blankets don’t is adding volume and depth to a room. The fact that pillows are voluminous will make the space feel more roomy and three-dimensional. There’s nothing a dull house needs more than a bunch of pillows.
Another great thing about pillows is that you can actually buy just a bunch of them and several extra cases. This way, you can change them according to the season, to your mood and even to current holidays.
Having themed accessories around the house is a mark of a detail-oriented person who is always aware of the things around them.
Art
There are not many things in the world that are more associated with personality and style than art. Art nowadays can be basically anything: from a decontextualized object to a classic painting or sculpture, artwork is a sure way to add color, style and personality to a room.
Many people claim that they don’t understand art, but adding an artwork to your home can be a first step into understanding what the art world is all about.
If you still don’t want any art around your house, you can use simple decorative elements that may or may not have been intended as art and that can embellish a place, such as dried starfish, chess boards or wooden balls.
Coffee table books
Coffee table books are a perfect way to add a lot of personality to a space. When you walk into a room and see a bunch of coffee tables, or even just one on a table, on a shelf or even on the floor, you already know a lot more about what their interests of the owners are.
Today, there are many services, which function both on- and off-line, that allow you to create your own photo album or coffee table book. Coffee table books that are exposed in a room are considered by a lot of people open invitations, so make sure that if you leave your holiday photos on a table, someone might flip through them.
Pictures
Speaking of holiday photos, another easy way to make your room a reflection of yourself is to add pictures on the piano, on the wall and on the desk. Today, the possibilities are endless: you can print large pictures, small pictures; you can print them on paper, on canvas or even on other materials. It is all up to you and your preferences. Pictures are also a great way to stay connected with the great things in your life that you wish to remember.
Adding pictures on the walls of your home or on desks will tell a story of where you’ve been and of who you were.
Candles
Candles are a perfect way to create a warm, cozy atmosphere during the evening, and why not, during the day as well. Scented candles can even stimulate an extra sense, which will add a new dimension to your room.
Elegant candles are generally very elegant home décor accessories: most candles are very fine, feature fine lines and smooth surfaces that anyone can appreciate and empathize with. This is why, if you like candles but don’t like candle light, you can simply add candles to a room, but never light them.
Plants
Plants are also great natural accessories, as they can make a room more alive and more vibrant. Today, you can basically buy any type of plant you like, need and can fit in your space: bigger plants, smaller plants, wider plants, narrower ones, all-green plants, multi-colored plants, monochromatic plants, etc. The only issue with plants is that they need care, water and light. For those who can supply only limited amounts of these things, cactuses are a perfect alternative you can go for.
Also, sometimes artificial plants can look great, but they rarely do, especially in a personal living environment.

I like these tips, but I think that adding too many pillows can make you home look crowded!
Not necessarily, but you can try with one or two smaller pillows and go from there!
I wouldn’t do the red checkerd blanket – too lumberjack – but I would do a paisley one and the other suff.
That’s what style is all about: discovering what you like and enjoy!
I’d rather go for those LED candle, b/c fire in the house could be a hazard..
They could be, but placed right, small candles rarely cause fires.
