The Bottega Veneta FW 2015-16 Collection in Review

Tomas Maier, the creative director for Bottega Veneta designed a memorable collection for the fall-winter 2015 season.

In this collection, which was presented in Milan, he channeld the spirit of day-to-day life, but left a lot of room for the extraordinary as well. His approach for joggers and sweatpants was one of the things that stood out, but his use of color and accessories did not go unnoticed as well.

Corduroy jackets, cardigan sweater, retro shirts and jeans, camel car coats and herringbone jackets, as well as graphic knits were the main pieces of his collection. These were accessorized with minimal, yet very fancy scarves, and sometimes with nostalic suspenders, the result being a very high-end streetwear collection.

Tomas Maier proved with this runway show that he understands how men can be extremely elegant and refined in their everyday lives and that wearing very high-end clothes should not be reserved only for occasions.

There was something bohemian about this collection, as it featured a vibe that did not reference a certain time or place, but that made you ponder of all the things one can do, therefore the collection was more bohemian from a philosophical point of view than from a historic one. The combination of soft and deep colors (Maier mixed shades such as mallow pink, byzantine purple, luteous yellow, and persimmon orange), as well as the varied choice of materials, was a reflection of the many things the modern man can do. From working a 9-to-5 job and going out and about, to exploring new spaces and taking off in new adventures.

This nonchalant, yet very sophisticated approach to everyday wear is something that is not very often seen down the runway, but this collection showed again, that wearing elegant clothes does not have to mean being pretentious in any way.

The clothes were simple and sensitive – the individual pieces seemed comfortable and tailored to perfection, making the man who wears them feel at ease with himself and with his environment. The clothes looked so natural and organic, that they did not feel as a style proposition, but a collection taken from the wardrobe of a man who has an eye for beauty and enjoys an eclectic style. Therefore, the collection conveyed both personality and a universal sense of style.

In fact, Maier conceptualized his show best, saying that, describing it as “beautifully-made clothes that have lived a life”.

Overall, this collection had a great poetic feel to it, but that of a modern poet, who can be anything from an adventurer to a banker.
