Presented during New York Fashion Week, the Perry Ellis Spring-Summer 2015 collection featured a very modern and versatile aesthetic, which has the ability to make any man stand out during the summer season, and, why not, beyond that?
After several brand transformations, the American label has come to a fresh vision with their new creative director, Michael Maccari. However, even though the label has went through several changes over the years, Perry Ellis has always been consistent with their vision of offering fine menswear that can resonate with a wide variety of men, a vision that is reflected in their spring-summer offering as well.
Their spring-summer 2015 collection was composed of sophisticated, modern and elegant structured suits, geometric knits, sweatshirts, lean-cut two-tone shorts, bomber jackets, as well as of light outerwear represented by anoraks and cropped summer parkas. Even though the brand’s creative director remained true to their principles, for example by offering great suiting by making use of slim cut garments, for his debut collection, Maccari also experimented with the implementation of sports pieces as well as with including some workwear-inspired garments in the collection.
The “Changes and Horizontals” collection, as it is called, was inspired by the work of Irish artist Sean Scully, who is a visual artist who has worked with various mediums, including photography and painting and who has created a unique aesthetic characterized by bold stripes that have become his trademark. Scully’s works can be seen in several museums and he has been nominated for the Turner award twice, in 1989 and 1993. The Turner award is an annual prize offered by the Tate gallery to a British visual artist who is under the age of 50.
Therefore, the collection is best described as powerful and sensitive at the same time. The playful aesthetic that combines prints that were interwoven with classic solids, can speak to men of all ages and features clothes for any time of day that are appropriate for a very large number of settings.
The earthy tones and blues, mixed with the occasional red, purple or white, make for a great summer palette that any man should have in his wardrobe.
The colors mixed with the linear groupings and the variation of styles make for a very dynamic collection that be very easily transformed and adapted to the wearer’s personal preferences, taste and style.
The main characteristic of this collection is however, that it is multifaceted. In the gallery below, you can see the best looks from the shows and read our commentary on why we enjoyed it and discover what you can learn from the looks.
