The Cannes Film Festival, which was held between the 13th and 24th May 2015 has come to an end. As we are accustomed, the French festival was packed with celebrities from all over the world. The big winner of the festival, which took the Palme d’Or was the film Dheepan, which was directed by Jacques Audiard.

This festival’s edition paid tribute to Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman, who was also Jury President in 1937. Her portrait was featured on the festival’s poster and the documentary Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words was screened in the Cannes Classics section.

The Cannes Film Festival has another side to it as well, besides from the films and the awards, which is represented by the red carpet fashions side.

If the women are always talked about because of their impressive red carpet looks, the men are more often than not passed by by the interest of the media. This, however, does not mean that the men don’t know how to make themselves stand out at a special occasion such as the Cannes Film Festival.

To prove that, we have picked 6 of the best menswear looks from the festival’s 12 running days and have broken them down to see why we enjoyed them so much!

We are happy to share them with you and to hear your comments on the looks:

Colin Farrell

In a very dapper three-piece gray suit, actor Colin Farrell stood out on the red carpet as one of the best dressed men. A classic neutral suit, especially a light gray one such as Colin’s makes great attire for a dressy day event. We also loved the way he accessorized the suit, by wearing dark shoes and a statement pocket square that added flair, elegance and personality to the outfit.

Tom Hardy and Nicholas Hoult

British actors Tom Hardy and Nicholas Hoult, the stars of the new Mad Max movie, wore very dressy outfits, but kept it casual by dressing a business outfit down. Leaving out a tie or other strong accessories, the two actors gave everyone a lesson for how to dress down an otherwise very dressy look.

Jake Gyllenhaal

At the premiere of “Carol”, which took place on 17 May, US actor Jake Gyllenhaal wore a classic tuxedo look. Jake definitely knows what to wear at an evening event and how to pick just the right bow tie. The trick, which you can learn as well, is that your bow tie should be proportionate to your body size: bigger men should wear bigger bow ties, smaller men should wear smaller bow ties, and average-size men should wear average-size bow ties. Also, it is important to remember that at an evening event you should not wear a colorful bow tie, but rather keep it simple with a shiny or matte black bow tie. Otherwise, you will look too casual, and casual accessories don’t go well with evening wear and with evening events.

John C. Reilly

Presenting a good dose of Mediterranean flair, John C. Reilly stood out from the crowd in a very dandy white suit. The tie, which matched the shoes in terms of color and balanced them in terms of the style (a grid of the tie works well with the soft lines of the shoes); the hat and the cane, all completed the all-white outfit that suited him so well.

As one can see, the 68th edition of the Cannes Film Festival brought together numerous people with very different personalities. What was really remarkable was the way in which these personalities managed to come across through the outfits worn by the actors, directors and other stars.

We are definitely going to keep an eye on what our favorite celebrities will wear next and what their upcoming projects will be.

Who was your favorite? Take our poll:

Michael Fassbender should be on this list. He looked really good at the premiere of Macbeth. He would get my vote if he were an option 🙂

Well, this is a good bunch! John R. I didn’t know you had it in you, Brava! Nicholas, who knew that lil munchkin from About A Boy would grow up to be so sexy, Colin F, I’m liking yr 50 Shades Of Grey, but for some reason I’m not sold on the shoes…
