Depending on the setting in which you will be spending the New Year’s Eve, we recommend to either tone down your formal wear or to dress up a casual outfit (if this goes in the setting where you will be celebrating). The number one rule of style is to make sure you wear clothes that are fitted for the occasion for which you are dressing.

Mixing high and low pieces is always a great way to create a style that is really original.

For example, if you are wearing a classic suit, you might want to add some casual accessories to it, such as a knit tie or a pair of colorful socks.

If you want to be casual, but still festive, you can wear a hoodie with a blazer (a fitted hoodie) or add a dress pocket square to a casual blazer (but not if you wear it with a hoodie).

Instead of opting for classic colors and neutrals such as brown, black and the occasional pop of red, you should put on some unexpected colors. Wearing pink, yellow, white, purple or even orange can make you stand out from the crowd.

Moreover, if you create a color scheme for your clothes that works well, you will strike the jackpot. In this sense, you should remember that colors that lie closely to each other on the color wheel (for example red and orange, blue and green) go well together and make for organic looks. Colors that lie on exact opposite sides of the color wheel also work great together (pink and light green, red and blue) and are more suited for casual, crazy looks. Accessories are a great way to express your personality, taste and style. Wearing accessories that speak to you and that make you more confident is a great way to step in the New Year. You can wear as many accessories as you want on NYE, as it is a very bright festivity, but you should make sure you don’t resemble a Christmas tree. Always remember that less is more.

When it comes to accessories, there are two crucial rules you should remember:

One: The accessories you wear should be proportionate to your body size. In this sense, men who are larger should wear bigger bow ties, wider ties and heavier watches, while men with smaller frame sizes should opt for skinny ties, narrower belts and small bracelets for example. Doing so will make you look proportionate and balanced, which is what you want to go for in a look.

Two: When it comes to metals or metallic fabrics, you should remember that metals are neutrals and can therefore be worn with any color and metal. Therefore, it is alright to wear both gold and silver and they match any color of clothes.

 

Your style has the capacity to make you more optimistic, more confident and to have a better outlook over the world, which is why it is worth investing time and resources in your style. Knowing who you are and dressing accordingly will make you feel more comfortable with yourself, which is the first step to doing anything well.
