Millions of people are star gazing during events such as the Grammys, the People’s Choice Awards or the Golden Globes, as their favorite celebrities walk down the red carpets of Hollywood. But there’s a whole other world out there, known by many, but not as main stream as Hollywood; a world that is just as glamorous and fancy as Hollywood (if not more), and that is the European entertainment scene.
Europeans generally treat film and television as being rather a part of life; they are not as strongly immersed in the local celebrities as Americans are and therefore they treat awards shows as special events that celebrate their work and not so much as a moment of a very high importance in the year.
Regardless of how you like your celebrity world, it’s great to discover different ways of doing the same thing. Fashionwise, American awards shows and European awards shows are quite similar: most people opt for conservative outfits, especially when it comes to menswear, but from time to time in Europe you see more ethnic clothes, more special and colorful pieces that add even more vibrance to the already bold red carpet.
We have selected one look from each the three main European awards shows that have taken place recently to illustrate the feel of the event.
Here they are:
Leonardo DiCaprio – BAFTA Awards
The 2016 edition of the BAFTA awards was held on 14 February 2016 at the Royal Opera House in London and celebrated the best in film and television for the year 2015.
The 2016 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA in short) awards were overall one of the most elegant awards shows of the season worldwide. The dresses worn by the women were extremely precious and beautiful (talk Cate Blanchett) and the men didn’t fall short either.
Leonardo DiCaprio won not only the award for “Best Actor”, but also the award for “Best Dressed”. In our opinion, at least. Rocking an impeccable classic suit by Armani and a gorgeous bow tie, Leo stood up to the occasion and really dressed for what an elegant evening in the British capital should be. Well done!
George Clooney – Berlinale
The 66th Berlinale, which is the Berlin International Film Festival, took place in the German capital from the 11th to the 21st of February of this year. The event opened with the satirical film “Hail Caesar” directed by the Coen brothers and starring George Clooney.
At the premiere of his latest movie, George stepped out in a black outfit that went very well with his wife’s Amal shiny dress. By wearing a perfectly-fitted suit, Mr. Clooney let his personality shine. His accessories – a simple, yet rich watch and a great pair of shoes completed the outfit. His grooming and hairstyle was impeccable, which only drew more attention to this actions rather than his look, which is what fashion should be all about.
Bruno Julliard – César Awards
The 41st César Awards ceremony, which was presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, took place on 26 February 2016, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and honored the best French cinema of 2015.
Because French films are the different brother in the movie industry, we didn’t want to pick a celebrity as a representative of the César red carpet. Instead, here is Paris’ Deputy Mayor Bruno Julliard together with Mayor of Pair s Anne Hidalgo, as they arrived at the 41st edition of the César Ceremony. If you didn’t know who he was, you might have thought he was a celebrity.
This only goes to show that the right outfit can give you an attitude that has the ability to put you in any mindset and even to make you shine like a movie star.
As you can see, the European awards shows are not very different than the American ones, which goes to show that good clothes are eternal and that a well-fitting suit is a great piece to wear regardless of where you go, as it is the universal code for good style.

I love the set up of the European red carpets – even though it’s basically the same thing, they do it quite differently!
The European red carpets definitely have an original vibe which we dig as well!
