New York Fashion Week: Men ended recently in the American capital of fashion. The newest installment of the FW family displayed spring-summer 2017 menswear collections that showcased the vision fashion labels and designers have for the season.
We really appreciated the fact that many collections presented during the event were actively going for a “down to Earth” vibe. The men’s fashion scene is sometimes so out of the norm that it doesn’t even challenge the norm anymore, it simply is something different and many critics have said that the menswear world should reconnect with the modern and man the world.
In this sense, it was great to see many practical, classic items on the runways; but done in a way that still makes them original, elegant and visually appealing.
We’ve selected 7 looks to represent this installment of NYFW:M SS17 and written commentary on what we think of them.
Take a look at the outfits that made our fashion edit:
Deveaux
This relaxed outfit by Deveaux puts a great spin on a Nordic seaman look. What we really like about it is that it expresses a concept and puts out a vibe in a subtle way, without being ostentatious or costum-ey. It’s practical, elegant and definitely appropriate for a casual day during the warm season.
Matiere
If you are going to go to a beach party next summer, this is outfit by Matiere can serve as your inspiration. With a modern nautical vibe, this look can be broken down into amazing separates that, due to their colors and print, can be mixed and matched in a vast number of ways. Great job!
Cadet
When a menswear piece has something that pops up right when you see it, you know the label is up to something. This look from the Cadet spring-summer 2017 collection offered interesting shoulder lines that are definitely a great conversation starter. The fabric of the clothes is also great.
David Hart
Keepinig in line with nautical – seaman look, David Hart offered a very exotic collection that really told a story. Going away on vacation on a private island, holding a drink in your hand or just relaxing at a barbecue, these are all things we see one do (or dream of) in this outfit.
Suitsupply
Suitsupply is a brand that is always on ours style radar, as they have a great way of adapting and re-adapting classic items. We really loved this layered look from their spring-summer 2017 collection, which featured a great navy vest and shorts, dressed up for the evening with a cool jacket and accessorized with a pocket square that broke the gray and a practical scarf. Well done!
Perry Ellis
Finding a balance is what great style is all about. This look from the Perry Ellis spring-summer 2017 collection definitely stroke a balance between a colorful print and neutral color blocks. Take the jacket off, and you are ready to have dinner, put the jacket on, and you are ready to go hiking – this look is very versatile and practical and that’s the reason we love it!
Wood House
Big silhouettes are not out of style, as this Wood House look goes to show. Also, the reason why we love this look is not only because it is on trend, but also because it shows that you can pull off oversized pieces, if the fit is great and if the fabrics are timeless. Great job!
We’re sure you found just as much inspiration in these outfits as we did and that you’ve discovered new ways to stay stylish during the summer. The warm season can be tricky, as the heat can be restrictive in terms of layers, fabrics and cuts (too narrow and you can’t breathe), which is why we’re always happy to introduce you to styles that are both on trend and that work.
We really enjoyed many collections and looks from New York Fashion Week: Men and can’t wait to see the clothes available in stores!
