The Guide to Long T-shirts (B)

White long t-shirtIn recent years, the runways of the world have seen the ‘boxy clothing’ trend come and go several times. However, a derivate of this trend seems to have captured the interest of many stylish men from around the world, and that is the long t-shirt.

A long t-shirt is different from an “oversized” t-shirt in that it is exaggerated in length and not in width. This characteristic makes a long length tee a very interesting fashion staple.

Stylish long t-shirtThis derivate of the 1990s oversized aesthetic, mixed with the sharp athletic clothes of the 2000s and of the teens have placed the long t-shirt in the spotlight of the international fashion scene. For example, Plus 2 Clothing an Australian menswear label focusing on creating long length t-shirts and other ‘long’ pieces that are both stylish and casual. When they started out in 2014, their vision was to provide clothing solutions for taller guys who generally struggle to find anything in their size. Two years on and they have an extensive capsule range featuring; tall hoodies, long sleeve tees, baseball jerseys and a wide selection of plain and printed long tees. Their clothes, while originally focusing on tall men, can now be worn by anyone who wants to make a fashion statement.

How to choose a long t-shirt

Long t-shirtsWhen you are searching for a new long length t-shirt, it is very important to find one that features a clean cut and that has a great fit. Fit is the most important aspect when it comes to fashion and clothes. A t-shirt, regardless of whether it is long or regular, should fit well on your shoulders. To check this, you need to look whether the stitches found on the shoulders of the t-shirt frame your natural shoulders. If they are droopy or too short, you should look for another t-shirt.

Long-length t-shirts are usually not tapered on your shoulders (which would not look good), so you must find a t-shirt that has a long, straight, yet fitted cut. Make sure the t-shirt frames your body with straight lines, you don’t want it to mold on your lines and make you look like you are wearing an evening dress. Wearing a long t-shirt is all about creating a long, lean and clean illusion, which brings us to our next point…

How to wear a long t-shirt

Blue long t-shirtLong length t-shirts, if they have a correct fit and cut, will make the wearer look long and lean. Therefore, if you want to create the illusion that you are very tall, such a piece is a good way to go. Tall men can also benefit from wearing such t-shirts. On the one hand, long t-shirts are good for tall men as they will fit them, and secondly, you can create a great look by enhancing your natural features. Style icon and Vogue editor Diana Vreeland always said that you should embrace and even exaggerate your features. Therefore, if you are tall, wear something that will make you taller for a very impactful result.

Do’s

Long t-shirts are usually casual pieces and should always be worn as such. They go great with jeans, khakis or even well-fitting sweatpants. You can even wear them with a jacket. In this case, remember that a jacket can be shorter than the piece it is covering, that should not be an issue.

Don’t’s

While we encourage people to experiment with their style and go on crazy fashion rides, there are a few things we recommend avoiding when it comes to long t-shirts:

  1. Avoid tucking your long t-shirt in your pants. If you want to wear a t-shirt that shows only to your waist, wear a regular-length t-shirt. Tucking in a long t-shirt will make you look bulky and will also feel uncomfortable. It’s like wearing a 19th century jumpsuit-pajama that is missing a half of it.
  2. If you are wearing a long length t-shirt, don’t wear it with shorts. We recommend staying away from a long t-shirt – shorts combination. If you are wearing a long t-shirt with short shorts, it will look like you lost your pants on and are desperately trying to cover up with your t-shirt; if you are wearing a long t-shirt with knee-length shorts, the shorts will be visible too little and your overall look will seem rather dirty and unpolished; and three-quarter length pants are just a big no-no in general, wearing such pants with a long t-shirt will throw off all proportions and will make you look incredibly sloppy.

And there you have it! Wearing a long t-shirt can add a lot of benefits to your style if you do it right. Following the tips and recommendations featured above will ensure you that you will have a great experience a wearing sporty piece that is very on trend and that you will look great wearing it!
