The Met Gala, formally called the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit, took place last night in New York City and gathered a plethora of celebrities to celebrate the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition and to drive donations for the Institute. Each year, a theme is driving not only the latest exhibition, but the ball as well.
In 2017, this was “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between”, which celebrated the influential Japanese designer and her brand.
Many celebrities walked the world-famous red carpet and attended the private event afterwards. Discover who were some of the best dressed men from the event in our fashion edit:
Nick Jonas
Wearing Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Nick Jonas went very Art Deco at the 2017 Met Ball. The print of the jacket was not extremely outlandish, but we really love to see an Art Deco reference on the red carpet, as Art Deco is not often used as inspiration. We think it’s going to make a come-back though.
Joe Jonas
On the other side of the Jonas spectrum, Nick Jonas brother Joe impressed with a bold color. As we wrote in an article earlier this year, burgundy is a new neutral and many men can benefit from wearing it. Joe did it, so why shouldn’t you?
Ansel Elgort
Ansel Elgort looked extremely dapper in Tom Ford. Ansel’s looks is proof that simplicity, tailored impeccably is the best way to go when you want to play it safe, but make sure you will still be dressed to the nines. Great job!
Rami Malek
Actor Rami Malek wore red on the red carpet. We’re always interested in seeing how suits such as his Dior Homme suit would look outside the runway, so we salute his fashion choice. Well done!
Ryan Reynolds
Sometimes, a well-chosen accessory can truly make an outfit. Ryan Reynolds’ bow tie really crowned his black suit. Not to mention that the bow tie was coordinated to Blake Lively’s feather-trimmed dress, which was a true showstopper.
Roger Federer
World-famous tennis player Roger Federer wore a stunning Gucci tuxedo by Alessandro Michele with a crystal embroidered cobra on the back. Sometimes, the surprise is in the back! We thought it is a very interesting choice to add the sparkle on the back. Great job!
The men’s outfits from the 2017 Met Gala were not extremely in tandem with the theme of the Institute’s latest exhibition. However, there were some great looks on the red carpet, which can serve as great inspiration for your personal future outfits.
