How to Transition Your Wardrobe from Summer to Autumn (B)

On AC, we always say that summer is a great season to play with fashion experiment with style. It’s a time when you can discover new things and incorporate them in your daily outfits.

But, once the autumn arrives, you should not ditch your style or feel like you need to enter a fashion routine. As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, you can continue to keep it stylish easily by following a few basic principles that will help you make the best of the cold season from a sartorial point of view.

Fabrics

If in the summertime the lightest of materials are the way to go, in the autumn you can start wearing materials that are a bit thicker in order to keep warm, but not too thick so that you sweat. Just as autumn is a transitioning time between warm and cold, so should you fashions be. In a period when the weather is sometimes warm, sometimes windy and sometimes downright cold, you need to have the gear to protect you from the elements. Natural materials are, as usually, the best way to go, as they allow your skin to breath, they adapt to the conditions better than synthetic materials do and they look very good. While cotton is a great go-to material, you can also put on pieces made from denim, corduroy, flannel and leather.

Leather in particular is a great material, as it is highly adaptable and can be worn in almost any type of weather condition. Suede is also a good fabric for the fall if you can incorporate it in your outfits and make sure you won’t get too wet in it.

Sometimes rough wool can be a good choice, especially for a late autumn evening, but tweed, which in the end is made of wool, is also a great way to go for those who want to add some British flair to their looks.

Layers

When the outside conditions are uncertain, the best way to go in terms of fashion is layers. Instead of going for a heavy jumper for example, wear a light shirt, a vest and maybe a jacket. This way, depending on the conditions, you can take off either the jacket, or the vest and feel good.

Layering also adds a lot of visual interest to an outfit, which is why you can consider wearing layered looks all-year round. Who said summer was the only season to learn new style things?

Accessories

When it comes to accessories, there are some essential fall accessories that will get you far during the season. Of course, umbrellas and hats are on the top of the list, but overshoes and fingerless gloves can not only complete an outfit from a visual point of view, but also give you a much needed protection.

In the end, when autumn comes, you shouldn’t pack your summer clothes right away. Many of them can be incorporated into layered outfits and worn during the autumn and even winter as well. Sometimes making a seasonal transition is as easy as adding on another piece to an outfit, such as putting on a scarf or exchanging no-show socks for longer socks.

Being elegant should be easy and knowing a few tricks to make the best of the autumn from a sartorial point of view will make the process of everyday dressing easy and, above all, fun, which is what fashion should be all about.
