Quotes from the July 2018 Issue of InCompany by Attire Club

InCompany by Attire Club July 2018 CoverThe July 2018 issue of InCompany by Attire Club was a celebration of travel and the role it has in the lives and work of designers and the public at large alike.

The issue started out with a great feature on Franck Dubarry, who after spending much time building brands and marketing campaigns, decided to create his own watch label. The designs of his watches are truly one of a kind, as the sources of inspiration are varied, and the result is a great aesthetic combination.

We then took a look at the Badrutt’s Palace hotel in St. Moritz, Switzerland, which is one of the top hotels in the world – a true must-do experience for any luxury traveler. Speaking of luxury, the issue also discussed the current trends in the luxury market, which include the utilization of blockchain and the new rise of the superbrands.

Digital influencer Luca Vezil, who also covers the issue discussed his inspiration, style and more in an exclusive interview.

In a special feature called “The Meaning of Travel”, we focused on two designers who use travel as a source of inspiration their designs. We looked at the works of Juan Carlos Gordillo from Guatemala, who, two years ago, launched a collection titled “A Journey to the Americas” and we also searched for answers about the designs of Swedish designer Lars Andersson, whose clothes are often inspired by Scandinavian knitting and the aesthetic of India and Nepal.

Discover a small collection of quotes from the various interviews and features in the summer issue:

“His colorful approach to watches was also timely. He explains that «when I started the watch company, there was a gap between the fashion industry, where, for example, Versace was doing a lot of colors at the end of the 90s and the watch industry was very dull: brown, black, gray. So I thought I could bring some color to it and fill the gap I had noticed».” – From the Franck Dubarry feature

“Social media have definitely changed the rules. As I said, TV was my major source of inspiration; whereas I now scroll Instagram – mostly all day long, to find new trends, new picture styles, new places to write upon my bucket list…” – Luca Vezil, online influencer

“My inspiration was to show a diverse America, packed with many cultures, but I also wanted to showcase a strong America. And I speak of the American continent. In the collection, I wanted to show an adventurous girl, very motivated to travel the continent, interested in discovering new cultures, their problems, but also their beautiful features.” – Juan Carlos Gordillo, designer

“’I’m heavily inspired by different cultures, religions, tribes and nomads from around the world. I have spent lots of time in Kathmandu, Nepal where I do my full fashion knitwear, and since last year, I also spend a fair amount of time in Kolkata, India where I do my wovens and cut and sew.

Both places are amazing for inspiration.

I love the older women wearing the sari, and how in winter they layer them with their shawls and cardigans, my autumn-winter 2018 collection was very much inspired by this look. And for the men, the lungi and t-shirt. They look very chic wearing this.

And many older men wear the super lightweight cotton kurta with the dhoti, which is also another fantastic look.

There is an endless amount of inspiration in these places.” – Lars Andersson, designer

Alessandro Maria Ferreri

“For a man, it is not so easy at the moment to take inspirations from the actual male icons, as the we should all dress like Kanye West or Jared Leto. Still, there are phenomena that resonate quite well with my way of dressing: I don’t have a strict style, if I may say so, as I tend to be like many men today, who easily jump from Gucci to Cos depending on their mood. I appreciate a lot of what Junya Watanabe does and, in general, am a big fun of Croco accessories, in all forms and colors.” – Alessandro Maria Ferreri, The Style Gate CEO

“Partying at the Palace was, and still is, legendary. On one occasion, a guest wanted to surprise his wife with a gift. While the content of the gift is unknown, the way it was delivered was an unforgettable experience for everyone who happened to be there on that day and see it. The guest impressed his partner by having the gift being brought in by an elephant.” – From the Dream Hotel: Badrutt’s Palace feature

Besides interviews, the issue also looked at the country of Jordan as a source of travel inspiration and featured a few style guides, discussions on cryptocurrencies and fashion and many pages of great fashion inspiration. There’s even a travel calendar, where we have a travel recommendation for each month of the year and the Mood Diary for this issue was Owen Jones’s “Grammar of Ornament” book, which detailed the specific patterns for various cultures at different times.

There are also insights on fashion history and a collection of great watches – in short, everything you need for stylish traveling, including mental traveling.
