Your Guide to Wearing Fragrance the Right Way

Think that wearing a great fragrance is as simple as giving your body a generous spritz here and there, and off you go? That can work, but, if you follow a few tips, you can make more of your perfume. If you don’t do it right, the scent that you chose is likely to wear off in just a few short hours, or you may have used too much and bring with you an overwhelming aroma which has the opposite effect to the one which you intended. Get it right and you are certain to turn heads all day (and night) long. Here are a few tips that you need to know.

Man-Spray-Perfume

Apply to dry skin

Many men and women apply their fragrance immediately after getting out of the shower or the tub because they think that the dampness will help the scent adhere better and for longer. On the contrary, the water dilutes the scent and prevents it from really gripping the skin. Instead, make sure that you dry yourself thoroughly and spritz holding the bottle at least four inches away. Surely, this does not mean that you should be dry as a piece of paper – you always want your skin to be moist – it simply means you shouldn’t spray perfume on yourself when you are still soaking wet.

Apply to the warmest parts of your body

The vast majority of individuals will spray their perfume or cologne onto their wrists or their neck. However, there are a number of other strategic heat points all over the body that can help to maximize the fragrance all the more. These heat points will push the fragrance off of you as you move, so you’ll leave an aromatic trail everywhere you go. They include the lower jaw, the neck, the armpits, the shoulders, the inner elbows, and the wrists.

Avoid applying your fragrance to all of these areas as that’s a sure-fire way in which to overwhelm the people around you with a scent that is just way too strong. Choose no more than two at a time for the best results.

Man-Fragrance

Don’t rub

It is a habit that so many people have. They spray their perfume or cologne onto their wrists and rub them together to help ‘distribute’ it. It is one of the biggest no-nos of fragrance application. The friction essentially affects the molecular bond of the various notes of the perfume or cologne which can ultimately weaken the fragrance and alter its complex scent – usually for the worse.

Don’t splash

If you are wearing cologne, it is better to pour a little bit of it onto your finger and press it directly onto the heat points of your body, as mentioned above. Splashing is sure to result in an overwhelming scent and a waste of fragrance. Even if you bought it online as a discount fragrance, you definitely won’t want even a drop of it to go to waste!

Don’t spray on clothes

Fragrance is designed to be applied to skin. The unique chemistry of your body, as well as the warmth, is what ensures that the fragrance evolves and that all of the notes properly develop. This cannot happen when you spray the fragrance onto an item of clothing, so all that you will really smell are the basic top notes, which sometime dissipate quite rapidly, depending on the product. Furthermore, some fragrances contain a certain amount of oil which can leave some nasty, persistent stains behind.

Now that you know all that you need to know about wearing fragrance the right way, it is time to go forth and smell incredible.
