Wedding day fashion can be a challenge to get right — 84% of couples have no idea of what to wear when they first begin their wedding attire search. As the groom, all eyes will be on you (and your fiancé) on your big day, so it’s important you dress to impress. With some careful thought and planning, you’ll be able to put together an outfit just as stylish as your partner’s.
Coordinate with your fiancé
Don’t forget to plan and coordinate your outfit with your fiancé. Your big day is your first official opportunity to showcase your exceptional style together as a couple, so make it count. While you probably won’t know the exact details on what your partner plans to wear, it’s at least crucial to make sure your styles complement one another (and not clash), while emphasizing your own individual tastes. For example, wedding jewelry is an important consideration. Brides should make sure their jewelry choice doesn’t detract from their dress, which is the main event. In turn, you could match the colors of your own accessories to her jewelry. Clothing-wise, a slim-cut gray suit, for example, will pair well with a chic, minimal gown, while a tailored tan suit is a good fit for a boho-style lace dress. As a note, gray or tan suits look a lot more youthful than a black one and many men these days are wearing them.
Don’t shy away from pattern
Pattern doesn’t have to be a no-go just because it’s your wedding day. However, if you do want to incorporate some pattern, it’s important to make sure it’s tastefully done and doesn’t look tacky or too much. For example, if you’re going to be wearing a solid-colored suit, adding a patterned shirt is a great way to introduce a fancy and colorful twist to your ensemble. Alternatively, maybe you want to be a little bolder and don a patterned suit. In this case, a classic jacquard print, chalk stripes, or a refined check pattern will look tasteful and sophisticated. Whatever type of pattern you ultimately choose, make sure you stand out from your groomsmen by having them wear solid colors.
Accessorize smartly
Your choice of wedding outfit accessories is a great way to set yourself apart from your groomsmen, as well as give your overall outfit a special stylish lift. For example, your watch, socks, pocket square, and even your shoelaces all provide opportunities for fun and unique accessorizing. If you’ll be wearing a pocket square, it should contrast (rather than match) with your neckwear. Or, if you’re a fan of stylish footwear, pair together socks and shoelaces that echo your overall wedding day style. Additionally, neckwear is an important consideration. Again, you can opt for interesting patterns or textures that match the overall color scheme. There’s also no need to stick to the traditional necktie shape. You may prefer to switch things up with a bow tie, ascot, or a skinny tie.
Wedding day fashion doesn’t have to be overly complicated for grooms. By coordinating with your fiancé, embracing pattern, and accessorizing smartly, you’ll be able to put together a great wedding-day ensemble.
