The Sternglas Hamburg in Review

Sternglas is a German watch company based in Hamburg. They are known for offering a collection of watches designed with the Bauhaus aesthetic in mind and with precise mechanics underneath.

Their pieces are all centered on precision, minimal color schemes and clear designs and are made for the modern minimalist, may he be a businessman or an artist. The simplicity of Sternglas’ designs makes them very versatile pieces, which can be worn with a wide variety of outfits, ranging from casual, everyday ensembles to business suits.

Sternglas Hamburg 4

The Hamburg is one of the company’s best sellers and for a good reason. We’ve worn and studied this watch for a while and have definitely grown to love it. Right from the start, the Sternglas Hamburg is a beautiful experience: it comes in a simple, elegant box and everything around it, from the cardboard to the support on which it is placed, is of high quality and really soft. This softness translates into the watch’s simple, flowing design, where all the elements come together in harmony, without distractions or “hard-to-read” features. And this is where the Hamburg’s main strength lies: balance. Often, watch enthusiasts (or any casual watch wearer for that matter) will discover that many watches that claim to be minimal are taking it too far (the numbers are too small, the hands are almost equal, etc.) or are not taking it far enough. But with the Hamburg, one cannot help but notice that it is a very balanced watch, where the numbers are easily read, the hands are easily distinguished, and the overall proportions work with each other well. And that is not something easy to achieve.

Besides the fact that the Hamburg looks stylish, it also wears very well. It’s a very comfortable watch, it sits well on the wrist, and it feels great against your wrist. What needs to be added here is that Sternglas offers a variety of straps that can be put on the watch. Our midnight blue leather strap feels very soft and comfortable in any weather and seems to be very durable and strong. The color is also very subtle, but powerful and stylish. The great thing about interchangeable straps is, of course, that you can have multiple straps and change them depending on your mood or context. You may wear a more dynamic strap during the day and change it with a darker, more subtle strap for an evening outing.

In terms of technical aspects, the Sternglas Hamburg is 42 mm in diameter, which makes it a good addition to most wrist sizes. It is also scratchproof due to its sapphire crystal and can go up to (or down to) 5 ATM. It is made from stainless steel, and it works on a solid Ronda quartz movement, which is very precise. It also has Luminova-coated accents (on the hands and hour dots), which stores light when exposed to it and then emits it in the dark, making the hands and numerals glow and continue to be visible.

Sternglas Hamburg 7

All in all, it can be said that the Sternglas Hamburg is a great watch to wear on an everyday basis. Its price (€249) is competitive and, while some say it is a bit higher than other models with similar features, it is definitely worth it, as the design and durability of the watch are impressive. This watch also makes for a great gift, and we’re sure that many guys, from new watch enthusiasts to collectors will appreciate it and will enjoy looking at it on their wrists.
