How to Dress Your Daughter on Special Occasions

Many of us have daughters and would go at the world’s end for them. However, when we find ourselves faced with a simple task such as dressing her up for a special occasion, many parents tend to get lost. So, what to do?

Fashionable Girl

The beauty of a baby girl comes from her strength of character, her gorgeous looks, beautiful shoes, and of course, her amazing dresses. Before daughters begin to dress, they would have already started their teen years. Until then, it is your responsibility as their father or mother to dress them perfectly for each day.

Dressing them for school, day-to-day activities, play dates, and doctor’s appointments is one thing, but dressing them for special occasions is another hurdle many parents have to deal with. Let us assume your ‘Aunt Millicent’ is getting married, maybe ‘Cousin Timmy’s’ daughter is celebrating her 9th birthday, while the ‘Rashfords’ have invited you all to their annual Christmas party. All these are special occasions that you have to carefully consider how you would dress your daughter for. You don’t want her looking like the scullery maid, nor do you want her looking overdressed. You want her looking just right.

What should you consider before dressing your daughter for a special occasion?

To start dressing your baby girl up for any occasion, you have to consider a few things that will determine what she can and can’t wear.

Her age

A toddler and a girl under ten will have an endless supply of unlimited energy; no one knows their dealer. Being restless and hyperactive means, they need to wear something that won’t constantly trip them and make them fall, but give them enough freedom to bounce around and wreak havoc on the party. You also don’t want to dress them in clothes with itchy fabrics or designs that they can pull off and choke on. Let’s face it; children think the best way to test anything is by putting them in their mouths.

Practicality

It is important to consider the comfort and practicality of what you’re about to wear for your daughter. An infant with diapers would need clothes that will make it easy for you to change her nappy.

Quality

You might want to consider dressing her in clothes that will last longer than the event you bought them for. You need to know she will wear it without worrying about it being out of trend or style. You want her to wear it enough, outgrow it, and maybe pass it on to her younger sister.

Weather

Whatever the event is, you cannot dress your daughter until you have considered the weather. She will need to be bundled up during winter, it should not be too stifling when it’s summer, and it should make allowance for a coat or jacket in the spring.

Others

Other things you might want to consider are the accessories, shoes, skin tone, and color of the clothes.

What should your daughter wear for special occasions?

After considering all these things, the only other thing to do is look at the event you have been invited to.

Weddings

For girls of all ages, a simple knee-length or ankle-length, but not floor covering lace, tulle, or organza ball gown, with a satin waist bow or belt, will be perfect for all weddings. You can check out where to buy flower girl dresses as these types of gowns come in different designs that might interest you and your girl. Pair the gowns with flat and comfortable shoes.

Birthdays

For birthdays, the theme of the event will determine what your daughter will wear. Some are costume parties, formal parties, or themed parties. Always ensure your daughter wears something that matches the theme or rule of the birthday.

Christmas parties

A frock is perfect for a Christmas party. You can add wings, halos, or veils to their dresses to complete their adorable look for the event for the younger ones.

Halloween parties

This should not be so hard. You can look up ideas for your daughter if she’s undecided on what to go as, or you can let her choose. She can be a kitten, an angel, a ghoul, a zombie, a witch, a favorite cartoon character, etc. The list is limitless and endless.

Funerals

Your daughter is young and is not subjected to the rules of color like the adults. Nonetheless, it does not mean she cannot wear black like you. Besides, even though they don’t have to wear black, courtesy demands that you dress them in cool and respectful colors: no yellows or pinks or neon greens. Colors like black, navy blue, army green, or dark purple would suit the occasion. You might want to let her wear a thigh-length gown with black hose, comfortable shoes, a hat, and a little bow in her hair.

Whatever you do, if you cannot afford to, don’t exceed your budget. Your girl can still look good with whatever you can afford. What matters the most is to teach them to be on their best behavior on these occasions so that their beautiful dresses will not be the only captivating thing about them.
