5 Grooming Tips for Men Before any Formal Event

Whether you’re scheduled to attend a formal party, a wedding, a prom, graduation, or a networking event, all these formal occasions may appear overwhelming for most men. That’s because, in formal events, everyone expects you to look and dress your best. But, aside from that, you’d also want to look your best not to impress people, but to feel good about yourself when it’s time to socialize during these affairs.

Now, the question is, “How would you prepare and groom yourself for these events?  Would it be the same as how you prepare yourself during a casual and ordinary day?  Before you intimidate yourself with these questions, there are ways and tips that you may want to remember that can help you look your best and be the most sophisticated for the next event. Furthermore, you can ensure that you won’t go around looking underdressed, unprepared, and unkempt with these tips.

Check out these five grooming tips for men before presenting yourselves to any formal event:

Plan your hairstyle ahead

The first thing you’ll need to plan before anything else is your hair. Your hair is crucial when it comes to grooming for formal events. It’s the first noticeable thing that a stranger will see from you. So, if you want to leave a lasting impression on anyone you meet, then take hair planning seriously.

If you’re considering getting a new haircut, make sure you book an appointment in advance with your trusted hairdresser so you won’t have to worry about long cue lines and delay your other grooming appointments. Most importantly, avoid having last-minute haircuts as that’s only a recipe for disaster. Last-minute haircuts, especially those done on the day or the day before the event, may lead your hairstylist to commit mistakes and cut your hair too short.

Moreover, having your hair cut at least a week before the event will give you enough time to analyze your hair and how you’d like to style it for the event.

Shave or trim your beard

The schedule for shaving your beard will depend on which beard style you plan to rock for the upcoming formal event. If you want to pull off a clean-shaven look for the event with a little twist of roughness, you’re free to shave your beard in the early morning. Then, after properly trimming your facial hair, apply beard oil to smoothen the newly shaved area and add a little shine.

If you’ve been growing your beard for a while now and you’re unwilling to give it up, you can trim a few inches from it and place an adequate amount of gel to keep it clean and formal. However, if you’re seeking a stubble beard style, it may be best to shave your facial hair a few days before the upcoming occasion.

Furthermore, avoid shaving your beard at the last minute as you’re only putting yourself at risk for skin irritation or rashes appearing on your face during the whole event. For best results, you can shave a few hours before the event will take place.

Prepare your skin

Aside from your hair, it’s also essential that you look after your skin. To prepare your skin and complexion for the event, start creating and following a skincare routine at least a month before the day of the event. This will give you enough time to use skincare products, such as facial oil, face mask, and other products, which will help alleviate acne, dry skin, and oily skin. It’s also ideal to include scrubbing, exfoliating, and moisturizing your skin in your routine for desirable results.

Planning to start your skincare routine a few hours before the event can’t guarantee you positive results as your skin will need enough time before any skincare product will take effect. So, get a good massage, exfoliate your skin, use a face mask, and clean your skin daily for a month.

Trim your nails

Suppose you’ll be attending a formal event that’ll require you to socialize with many people and offer handshakes when necessary. In that case, make sure you don’t forget to trim your nails, preferably after you take a shower that day. Furthermore, keep your hands well-hydrated and moisturized by applying hand or body lotion for men.

Pay attention to your body odor

Even if you have the best hairstyle, a well-shaved beard, or healthy skin, it will ruin your entire look if you smell bad during the event. So, before you step outside, pay attention to your body odor, and don’t forget to use deodorant to keep your body odor under control. You can also wear a spray or two of your fragrance to ensure you smell fresh and good for the rest of the night. Opt for scents that aren’t too strong but can guarantee longevity, such as musk, patchouli, or sandalwood.

Lastly, brush your teeth and bring breath mints with you during the event so you can always freshen up your breath anytime. Looking good and smelling good as a perfect way to boost your confidence.

Finishing up

Formal events are a chance to take out your sharpest suit and bring your best foot forward. However, it’s proper grooming that can go a long way toward boosting your self-confidence. So, whatever formal occasion you’re attending to, let these easy tips help you groom yourself properly for the big day.
