How to Channel Elvis in Everyday Streetwear

In the world of Rock ‘n’ Roll, no name bears more significance than Elvis Presley. The undisputed King of the genre, has a legacy that is so strong, that it has turned him into a legendary figure in pop culture and one of the most well known music icons in the world, as Biography shares that thousands of fans visit Graceland every year on the anniversary of his death.

But it’s not just his music that had and keeps on having an influence on us. While his record breaking hits and outstanding number of performances throughout his concert years demonstrate the magnitude of his musical impact, he is also known for his image. Elvis’ live performances were electric, though what helped him achieve that ultimate cool vibe that guy and gal loved. It was what he wore and the confidence he wore with the clothes that truly drew his audience in.

Elvis has inspired the beauty and fashion industry tremendously, from his hairstyle to his wardrobe choices. From his pompadour hairdo that’s been modernized through media publications like on Hairstyle On Point, to his signature blue suede shoes featured on the game Elvis the King Lives from the European-based gaming company Slingo, his head-to-toe looks were truly captivating. His style may seem too flashy for the everyday man, and at one point, the King did admit to dressing conservatively off stage and pulling out all the stops when he was on stage. However, there are a lot of ways you can incorporate his sense of fashion into daily wear, without looking gimmicky.

Here’s what you can wear to nail that Elvis attitude in your outfit:

Sports jacket with jeans

If you ever wondered where this classic combination came from, just look to Elvis. His preppy meets rocker aesthetic, as described by Square Mile, was epitomized in his oversized jackets and denim pairings, an outfit idea that any man can pull off. Now, oversized jackets were a thing of the time, so you can adapt the look for this day and age and wear a more fitted jacket. Also, you may opt for darker denim for a more formal look.

Stripes and other patterns

Think back to Jailhouse Rock and experiment with horizontal stripes. The key is to go for bigger, bolder stripes, as Elvis never shied away from colors and prints. To balance out your ensemble, make your striped shirt your statement piece and go for basic fabrics in neutral tones for the rest of your clothes. He’s also worn gingham if you prefer that type of print.

Polos and short-sleeve shirts

Elvis loved his polos, but then again, who doesn’t love a good polo? The thing about polo shirts is that they are extremely versatile and can be worn in many ways. To channel the King, forgo the shorts and skinny jeans and wear your polo with tan slacks. It’s a casual look that still exudes his sophistication.

Elvis’ music has had a tremendous impact on the music industry, it contributed to revolutionizing the way people think of music. And the same goes for clothing: the King was an inspiration for millions of teens and still continues to inspire people sartorially in different ways: for some, Elvis Presley is a style icon they wish to imitate and adapt, for others, he’s a symbol of pushing the fashion game forward.
