The Snow Polo World Cup will be held for the 34th time in the beautiful town of St. Moritz, Switzerland. Between 27 and 29 January 2018, the luxury alpine resort town in Switzerland’s Engadin valley will be the host of some of the world’s most acclaimed polo players and their fans.
The tournament is the only polo contest in the world to take place on a frozen lake. The ice on the lake, which is located at 1768 meters / 5800 feet above sea level, is between 50 cm and 70 cm / 19.6 in and 27.5 in thick and is able to host a 184.6 m x 90.0 m / 201 x 98 yards field. Last year, it took 40 men a total of 5,600 man hours (which is the equivalent of 3 man years) to erect 2,600 tons of tents, fences, grand stands and other infrastructure on the lake in under 3 weeks.
St. Moritz is not just a holiday resort; it is one of the world’s most luxurious places and always ahead of the curve in terms of everything you can imagine. For example the first electric light went on as early as the Christmastime of 1878, the first golf tournament in the Alps took place here in 1889 and one of the first ski lifts in Switzerland began running in 1935. So, when Hanspeter Danuser, St. Moritz’s legendary tourism director came up with the idea of making a snow polo tournament, he made it happen with the help of the amazing Reto Gaudenzi, one of the most impressive polo visionaries of the past decades. And so, a new legendary event was born.
On the 34th edition of the event, Team Cartier, Team Azerbaijan Land of Fire, Team Badrutt’s Palace Hotel and Team Maserati will battle it out for the win.
Attire Club will be present at the event and will cover it for our website and for the InCompany by Attire Club magazine, which, speaking of Switzerland has also been invited to be an official press partner for Baselworld, the world’s biggest watches and jewelry fair, which will be held between 22 and 27 March 2018.
