Attire Club Mood Board: Chinese Year of the Dog

The day of 16 February 2018 marked the beginning of a new Chinese year. This time around, it is the Year of the Dog.

The Chinese zodiac works in 12-year cycles, meaning that people who were born in 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, and 2018 are born in Years of the Dog. According to Chinese tradition, the year of your birth, and more precisely the animal with which it is associated, determines a lot of your personality and traits. Each sign has a series of sub-types. For example, 2018 is the year of the Earth Dog. The last year of the Earth Dog was 1958.

It is said that those born in Years of the Earth Dog are serious, reliable in the workplace and very communicative. The Dog in general is considered to be an auspicious animal.  People born in Years of the Dog are also said to be loyal, decisive and not afraid of life’s problems. This makes them warm and great friends. Their faults are being too conservative, stubborn and sensitive.

Some examples of celebrities born in Years of the Dog are Winston Churchill, Prince William, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Ellen DeGenere, but also Confucius and Li Yuan (the first emperor of the Tang Dynasty 618 – 907). Also, three US presidents were born in 1958: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Donald Trump.

For people born in Years of the Dog, the numbers 3, 4 and 9 are said to be lucky, while red, green and purple are said to be their fortune-brining colors. Their lucky flowers are the rose and cymbidium orchids.

Style Inspired by the Year of the Dog

The Chinese New Year can be a great opportunity to discover a lot of new style inspiration: from the strong Chinese red and gold to small lucky charms and fine Chinese lace. You can also get inspiration from classic Chinese red envelopes and translate them in tablet or phone sleeves. Why not get a laptop case with a subtle dog design? And, if you’re there, why not wear a small bracelet with an abstract dog design as well?

The Year of the Dog and the World

The Year of the Dog is said to bring changes in the world: these can come in the form of heavy unrest, but they can also be good changes. According to Chinese experts in the zodiac, people will be happy, yet frustrated, rested, yet tired, cheerful, yet dull. Of course, this can be said about any year, so we’ll leave it to that.

Change is meant to be challenging at times, but it can be said that when faced with strong changes, we should put in all our efforts and power to make the change move in a good direction.

Thus, we wish you a prosperous and, above all, powerful and wise Year of the Dog. This year, take the energies that come your way and turn them into something very, very good.
