The A. Sauvage Autumn 2018 Collection in Review

After the amazing spring-summer 2018 collection, fashion house A. Sauvage presented their autumn-winter 2018 collection, which got us looking in awe once again. The collection, called “Ce Soir”, which is French for “Tonight”, features rich velvet hues, big sleeves and sleek cuts. The pieces, which combine modern exaggerated sleeves and fine Italian handmade finishes are timeless items that can be easily interchanged and worn in a wide number of contexts. For this, Adrien Sauvage was inspired by his California clients, who need to transition very quickly from day to night outfits and from one setting to the next. Sauvage said “Los Angeles is very casual. It’s the only city — more than New York, I think — where people dress up to go out in the evening. You have more time and you go home and get dressed to go out. Whereas in London, it doesn’t work like that.”

Thus, the collection features pieces that can be layered and mixed and matched easily with other clothes. They can be dressed up for evening or dressed down for day. The clothes can also be easily layered, which makes them more useful and versatile. Their sleek cuts and fine materials allow the wearer to play with layers without being forced to concentrate on these pieces as the statement pieces.

Even though, we would choose these pieces as statement pieces. The true force of these garments is their simplicity and timeless elegance: the small details such as the fine detail lines and the deep colors and rich materials certify them to be clothes for any man’s capsule wardrobe. They are go-to pieces, you can’t be underdressed in them and they make you look like a million dollars. Or pounds.

The clothes, modeled by Ty Ogunkoya  in the brand’s look book were also an experiment or play with fabrics and layers, as the designer chose to overlap items in the same color, but of different fabrics, for a deep, yet understated effect.

The combination of references, ranging from African motifs to Los Angeles palms and even a bit of preppy aesthetic make this collection universal, which is why it is so remarkable and interesting. In menswear, it is always intriguing to see a collection of classic men’s fashion items such as shirts, jackets and pants done in a way that is masterful, innovative and edgy, but that remains classic, timeless and true to the interests of the wearers at the same time.

It’s always the small tweaks and details that make certain clothes great and Adrien Sauvage definitely scored a 10 once again in our book with his autumn-winter 2018 collection.
