Our Three Favorite Menswear Looks from New York Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2019

New York Fashion Week is known to be the commercial sibling in the family of Fashion Weeks. The looks presented here are often not just very American, but are the looks that represent the “artistic-commercial balance of fashion” we so often talk about.

Sometimes, this approach can work against the collections, as the outfits tend to be pedestrian and not spectacular enough. However, this time around, NYFWM was a great surprise. Indeed, “surprising” is the word that describes the collections best. Many of the looks we’ve seen while checking out the photos coming out of the Big Apple were downright cool, funky and upbeat, which is quite rare in fashion these days. Maybe New York designers are starting out a new trend? We sure hope so.

So, without further ado, we invite you to take a look at our top three picks from the collections for the spring-summer 2019 season, which were showcased in New York:

David Hart

The collection proposed by David Hart for the upcoming spring-summer 2019 season had a very 70s feel to it. While some of the looks felt a bit out of a movie about the flower-power era, others looked really updated and chic. The 70s are a decade that is hard to update, which is why transforming looks in a good manner, such as in the case of this look, is definitely admirable. Great, great, great!

Bode

The new Bode collection was fresh and exotic. With a clear inspiration and vibe coming from Southern Asia, the looks were indeed what we call “trendbreaking”. The colors were vibrant, the palette was classic yet bold and the fine details were there. We loved the accent colors around the neck and the lower part of the pants as well as the hand-constructed belt.

Carlos Campos

We’ve seen many versions of a cirque-esque black and white look, but it seems that the interpretations of this look are infinite. While there was nothing really groundbreaking from this Carlos Campos look, we really liked the balanced way in which the black and the white were used and the shapes and cuts that e the wearer look strong and structured.

This type of fashions is still not very popular today, but it may become if more designers from the USA and abroad decide to balance out the dystopian gray things we’ve seen over the past seasons.

Of course, these trends tend to go hand in hand with what is going on in the world, so if we are to see more color and fun on the runways will be it because the world will go in a better direction or simply because we will not want to look the state of the world in the face? This is a tough question we will probably have to deal with in the months to come.
