When it comes to menswear, New York is known for its practical, ready-to-wear pieces that most men could wear straight off the runway. However, this season, many brands presented looks that were more conceptual than the Big Apple has gotten us used to. There were many high fashion sportswear pieces, which is big trend and thus, not very surprisingly, only a few updated classic items:
Discover our favorite look in this fashion edit:
Boss
With a relaxed silhouette, this outfit from the Boss collection gave a great resort vibe, which is a nice thing to see in a spring collection – it feels like a preview of future cruise collections.
What we enjoy about it is that is uses neutrals (beige, gray) in a way that looks fun, young and relaxed. The proportions are well-balanced and give a sense of calmness and cool.
Dyne
Today, a big trend both in the womenswear and the menswear world is turning sportswear into high fashion. This look by Dyne suggests a very upscale sports piece mixed with a casual pair of pants. The belt adds a nice touch to the look and completes it. What we really liked was how the pants allowed the jacket to steal the scene: sometimes you want to showcase a piece, in which case you need good supporting pieces.
Ovadia & Sons
You can always rely on Ovadia & Sons for a great look. Their spring 2018 collection was surprising in the sense that it was different from what everyone else did. It was not extremely street, but rather it suggested clothes for a man who enjoys dressing up for the park, for short travels or for exploring the city.
Theory
Also mixing sportswear with high fashion, Theory offered well-tailored clothes that featured a very casual and sportive vibe. The pastel, soft colors are great for the spring and bring a bit of charm to the look. Great job!
New York still has some work to do in attracting big names and becoming a very strong men’s fashion scene, but it is getting there.
With much support from the press and the consumers, the event can take off a lot in the coming seasons and become a powerhouse in men’s fashion.
